Walmart has 14 piece pro grade wrench sets (sae and metric) for $14 on clearance. Regular price was $48. Are these wrenches any good? They are fully polished. For the price they look decent and maybe better than regular craftsman.

Walmart very often sets clearance prices locally so one store could be great and one down the road no discount.

I get the feeling we may see a lot of non ratcheting wrenches in the clearance bins, but I have no urge to buy more than the basic set I have.

I have a gut feeling that those Stanley full polish made in China wrenches are the same as the full polish Husky wrenches available at home depot. And the same as the Mastercraft wrenches available to our friends in the north. But I could be wrong. For $14, but a set and try them out.... let us know how well they work. And don't forget to compare them to Snap On!

Yes, for $14, I would ****** them up. Good for a car/truck tool kit or for loaners.

I passed on a Stanley Pro 1/2" ratchet on clearance for $5. I went back a few days later and it was gone. I'm still kicking myself over that one. It was a darn nice looking tool for the price.

Boycott Wal-Mart (and any other retailer) for their import of Asian products (and those products effect on US manufacturing and jobs), if you will, but don't buy into the hype and ******** spread by sites like walmartwatch.com.

They're full of it. Go speak to Wal-Mart employees yourself, and see what the truth really is, before spreading the message for the anti-Wal-Mart (and anti-capitalism) fraudsters

Now, with that said, I definitely would recommend the Craftsmand stuff over the Stanley stuff, but - I was at a Wal-Mart locally about 12-14 months ago, and they had a set of 13 full-polish SAE long-pattern wrenches on clearance for $18. This was before I had really built up my set of tools with all the Craftsman stuff, and the price seemed phenomenal, so I grabbed them.

They seem like great tools - I was using them for several months, before I bought Craftsman and GearWrench stuff, and I turn to those more now than the Stanley stuff, but it's still in my toolbox (at least until replaced with a set of Craftsman Pro full-polish long-pattern stuff).

For $14 ($1/wrench!), get it! If nothing else, sell it on Craigslist for $28, and double your money, but that's a hell of a deal.

Only thing I buy from WalMart is oil; you can't beat the price. Mobil 1 (5w-30) for $19 (5 qts.) ...

I buy more than that, but Wal-Mart is where I get my Mobil 1, too!

I just wish they carried the Mobil 1 filters, instead of all that Fram ****. I've got to go to Wal-Mart to get my oil, and the local AutoZone or Schuck's to get my filters.

For the price yes I would buy them. Wouldn't expect a lot, but a extra set can come in handy sometimes. I'm not a fan of WalMart and actually believe they have done more harm than good, but I doubt that at $14. they are going to make a killing on it.

My Walmart is open 24/7 and routinely has prices as much as HALF of what other places charge. Oil, washing the car stuff, goops, cold tablets, and the essential fluid I operate on, Dr Thunder.

I just don't see the need for a set of cheap open end wrenches. The only time I am going to reach for one is with an access issue where a gear wrench won't work, and that means I want a THIN good quality wrench.

A nice set of wrenches for this price is a deal, if for no other reason than to set up a "grab and go" tool box for traveling and emergencies. I don't go on a road trip without my dad's old Kennedy cantilever top tool box stuffed full of oddball wrenches and other tools. None of them are great, but they are functional in an emergency or away from home. If you don't have some type of toolbox for road trips, you probably should, but who wants to tie up lots of money in tools that won't get used once a year? Thats what makes wrenches like this (or flea market tools), a deal.

For someone just starting out, this also is a good way to get started without spending a bundle.

I try to avoid Mao Mart, but it is very difficult because they are literally the only game in town. They ran all of the Mom&Pop department stores out of business when they opened about 15 years ago.

Now they are ready to break ground on a supercenter a block away from where they are currently located. I patronize locally-owned businesses whenever possible (we have a great Ace Hardware), but it's not always possible.

At that price I would buy them for the travel tool box, give to the kid going off to college or give to the brother in law that never actually uses tools. One of my buddies bought some Stanley wrenches a few years ago and they're fine for him although they only get used 3 or 4 times a year at most. Then again, he bought them several years ago. No idea what Stanley quality is now. I would hope they would be at least equal to Husky which isn't too bad.

"Mao Mart"..lol. I laugh everytime I read that. I hate going there as it is always packed...and noisy. The only place to buy USA made wrenches within 45 minutes of here is our small Sears store. Both our True Values and our Ace started selling China/Taiwan wrenches years ago.

Three of my friends work at our Wally world. One hates it, but she's hated every job she ever had. Her story is always the same at each job. The manager is stupid, manager doesn't know what he's doing, her coworkers try to get her in trouble, coworkers tell lies about her, etc. Basically she wants to get paid for doing nothing.

The other two seem to like working there ok. I don't think they love it, but they both have stayed there and passed up chances to go elsewhere so there must be worse places to work. And their benefits are better, in some cases a lot better, than the mom and pop businesses provide.
