This evening I was in a recently opened Wal-Mart in Salem Indiana. the hardware Dept. had Stanley wrenches and sockets singles on a peg rack. I had not seen these before in a Wally. the Auto and Hardware Dept. were well stocked and I saw several new products. I took some photos of the Stanley display. Please excuse my poor flip phone photos.

Pretty cool. You can buy exactly what you need to flesh out a set of tools. The local Wal-Mart has a bad selection of tools.

I'd almost bet a dollar they are selling those on a consignment basis. When they sell one, they pay Stanley for it, it one gets stolen, no dryer lint out of walmarts pocket.

I thought the same thing.

Most of those will be sold at a five finger discount, especially at a Walmart, but on a per piece basis, they're overcharging 100x anyways considering it'd be like $1k to make a 300 piece kit, so it's the honest people shouldering the burden of the thieves as usual.

Some of the big stores change inventory seasonally, so in a few months it could be reduced back to the basics.

I was in the Salem Indiana WalMart today and the Stanley single tools were gone.

Wow, that *****. I guess they didn't sell too many. Most of the WM crowd probably just buys the cheapest large set of tools.

The singles would be great to fill in gaps in your tools for the folks with cheaper brands of tools. I imagine the WM crowd would just grab a crescent wrench if they lack a certain size.

The walmart's near me barely have anything tool related at all. Kinda sad, but on the other hand, it's keeping people from buying tools at WALMART...

Those would all disappear in a day at my wal mart. I just don't see a system like that working any where these days.

My Walmart is completely redoing the tool Dept. right now. Huge changes. Was surprised to see 72in bottom chests the other day.

Mine too probably. The number of times I've tried to buy bulbs and only one is in the package instead of two pretty much says it all.

They just literally installed this at my store over the weekend and re-did the entire tool section. Too bad I can't get a response from them about the Hypertough 1000 lumen work light I bought that won't charge.

Walmart doesn’t Pay the supplier for the product until it’s scanned at the checkout, so Stanley is essentially footing the bill for the tool display.

One of the nearby wal marts has the Stanley set up linked. However, on closer inspection of the tools themselves, I was less than impressed. Now don't get me wrong, it's nice to see a good sized selection of tools in a wal mart that's open 24/7 but, the overall quality is fairly low. The tools are a far cry from the Stanley Asian made tools of recent history. Everything is made in the PRC and the bar was set pretty low as far as fit, finish, feel goes. Perhaps these are wal mart grade Stanley tools. :dunno:
I think if I needed something, I'd head to autozone for some duralast goodness.
The wal mart prices were very reasonable though.

Yes I noticed that as well. Walmart has a history of forcing producers to come within the cost they want to sell at. Can't do it Walmart won't carry it. There was the famous story of Snapper where the owner stood up to Walmart and refused to cut quality to meet their pricing (though I think they gave in and are making a cheap foreign line now). All the same interesting read on how Walmart works if you haven't seen it before.
