My non political opinion of Stanley. Some of their tools are good, others are garbage.
I've used a lot of the screwdrivers over the years and even the economy models work well.
Stud finder: Junk, not worth the packaging it came in.

You could probably go to walmart and get them cheaper. Regardless, I've got a stanley tape measure I like a whole lot.

I would like to know the COO of Stanley Pro but anyway, it does go to a good cause and tools purchased would stay in my car for emergencies. I would rate them on par with HF's best from Taiwan, better than HF's China.

stanley has some very nice carpentry tools that many pros use. bostitch is nice. their fatmax tapes rock. their mechanics tools like wrenches, ratchets etc are lacking. for a while they had a microtough ratchet series that was awesome. so just watch what you buy

we have several of the habitat for humanity stores in the OKC area. We have found some great deals on material for remodeling projects but our local one's haven't had much in the way of tools

Stanley USA and England tool are good, I'd pass on the rest and I'm not a big fan of that Habitat for Humanity.

My dad has two sets of Stanley ratching wrenchs that are really good, there about 35 bucks a set from Wal-Mart. Has used them on the farm for years now haven't broke one. However Stanley doesn't make them anymore. The Stanley tools that were made in Taiwan some years ago, are better than the Chiese stuff today. I have a set of Metric long pattern wrenchs. I've beat on with a 4lb drilling hammer and they dont break. There stuff is good when considering the price. However there ratchets look like junk. So from my experiance I can't complain abou tthem.

Their ratchets are junk. I got a contractor pack as a gift with full polish tools (china of course) and all three ratchets did not work from the get go. The combo wrenches and sockets are all very nice. I keep this set in my car for emergencies.

I carry a set of Stanley offset/double box-end wrenches in my junkyard/road box. They actually fit fasteners very well. They have dealt with a lot of rusted-to-heck junkyard parts and never stripped a nut or bolt. Occasional pounding with a drillers hammer has not left a mark. This set is about 10 years old or so. The newer tools at Walmart look a little lacking in the quality department in comparison to my old junkyard warriors.

About 5 years ago I bought one of their tool sets on Black Friday for around $40. It's one of the larger ones they make with 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drives with deep and shallow sockets. I keep it in my Jeep for a trail tool kit and it has been great. The ratchets are pretty nice but Stanley changed the design recently and I don't like the knew version. I've used the warranty once in 5 years. Just call them up and the new tool is in the mail.

i have a tool kit i bought a few years back that i used for everything. i bought it at walmart for like 50 bucks on sale. has 3/8 and 1/4 drive. some wrenches, allen wrenches, nut driver bits, ect. i have used cheater bars on the ratchet without any problems. To this day it works fine..but kinda rough, was going to take it apart to clean and lube it, but the screws holding it together just stripped completly at the head..so whenver it goes..ill just get a new one on warrenty. Its just a road box now as this place has made me an avid tool buyer...

pretty sure i purchased the same set [200pc set or something?] not too long ago for some on the go tools i wouldnt care too much about if i lost one or what not. Was a bit surprised to see they were made in mexico.

Nice set for the money.

I'm a big fan of their planers! I also buy their measuring equipment, tape measure, squares, levels. They've all worked well but I imagine most measuring tools made by almost anyone else would do the exact same job.

Stanley Rotator Ratchet: Stanley makes these for other companies as well, I have one from Home Depot (Husky branded) - exactly the same as the Stanley item but with an orange and black handle. I like it quite a bit, fine tooth ratcheting mechanism, nice overall feel and finish, it would be more useful if it had a 1/4" drive ability at the end of the handle. It comes in very useful at times. Hasn't relaced my standard 3/8" drive ratchet though.

Black & Decker makes a Stanley Rotator knock-off that can be found for half the price. The handle on the B&D unit removes completely leaving a 1/4" hex shaft exposed. You can then drive the shaft with a 1/4" ratchet (or a drill). Finish and overall feel is not as nice as the Stanley unit, the B&D unit feels downright cheap.

I found that place online a few weeks ago too. I doubt it would be worth it to go there for Stanley, but I wonder if they ever get any Proto. There is also a Mac sign on the wall in one of their photos...
