So I grab my Stanley dead blow hammer. It's decided to turn from black to white since I last used it. I use it to whack in some 3 pt hitch pins and it literally disintegrates. I don't abuse warranties. If I abuse a tool it's on me, If it wears out it's on my. But in this case, it's clearly a defect in materials or workmanship. I put Stanley to the test and they came thru with flying colors and will send me a replacement. (no need to send them the remnants and they didn't hassle me about a receipt). Just passing this along.

I had a Blue Point deadblow that looked the same and did the same thing. It might even be the same OEM - I seem to recall it saying "Compocast" or something on it which I associated with Stanley. I called Snap-on not expecting much, and the Rep told me they all do that and kindly sent me a Snap-on replacement instead. Glad to hear Stanley is backing up their tools.

Roughly 15 years ago I purchased a Stanley sweet heart shoulder plane. Some months later I opened the box and realized there was a problem with an adjustment screw.

I could not get Stanley to respond. I was able to fix it with a Dremel and some cutting discs.

I own many vintage hand planes as well as new hand planes from Lee valley and Lie Nielsen, but no new hand planes from Stanley. I simply assumed they had essentially no warrantee. Let us know how it works out.
