Hello. Still new guy here and sorry to buck other post. I really appreciate a good level. But is there a method for finding a Stanley model that is not marked? It does have Pat 1962 and 1972. It is 14 x 1.25 x 1.50. Any help would be appreciated.

Start by going to DATAMP dot org, entering your patent dates, and then they might tell you what it was used on.

Then you can go to the International Tool Catalog Library at Archive dot org, enter Stanley, sort by date published, then look at catalogs up to about 15 years after your patent dates. The first pages of the level section will often describe features for the levels, then you can work from there to a model number abd size.

Walter"s book lists your Stanley level markings as type 4, made 1872-89. Your level has an adjustable bubble and no end caps, but no such adjustable bubble levels are listed as being available in your 14" length, so its very likely your level has been cut down. Stanley sometimes stamped the model number in the wood on top of the level, just in front of the brass cover over the bubble, so have a close look in this area for a number.
