I believe SO, MATCO and Assenmacher might get these sets from the same mfg. and rebrand them. I was working at a VW dealership in the late '70's when Assenmacher first started selling tools for German autos--as far as I know they never made their own tools! I live 25 miles from their biz and although haven't been there since pre-Internet days it is still the same address and not a mfg. facility! They are however,a great source for specialty tools and provide great service.

To the best on my knowledge Assenmacher never actually manufactured any tools. However, in the late '70s up through the '80s (possibly beyond) Gerhard Assenmacher did sell tools that he designed and had manufactured to his specifications.
