Staple question for upholstery crowd

I recently bought one of these staplers, and had the chance to use it for install of some roof baffles of my shop. I really like it and now that it has passed the first test, I am gonna use it to recover and foam the seat on my DRZ 400 dual sport bike.

I had great luck with the 1/4 T50 staples on the roof baffles, but for the seat cover application I want to use the shortest staple available. The stapler says it will use the following staples.

20G Wide Crown Staples, 7/16 wide and as shallow as 5/32 length up to 5/8 length.

Specifically I am looking for a staple that is similar to the OEM type as they seem to hold up well without rusting. S

So what I am looking for is specific suggestions for stainless 5/32 staples for this stapler.Hopefully someone has this stapler and has done some upholstery work in the powersports side of things.

I know that you can buy MONEL staples. They are non rusting and expensive. Was lucky enough to find two boxes in a bunch of **** I bought. I don’t know what depths they come in but I believe they were made by Arrow. Maybe an upholstery wizard will direct you better.

Arrow T50 staples start at 1/4" leg length. I think he's looking for shorter.
Monel is very corrosion resistant, but stainless should be sufficient, and is stronger.

Yes, I have the T50 1/4 length, I would like a 5/32 length in stainless.

That depends. The T50 isn't technically an upholstery stapler, in that it uses flat profile staples. Real upholstery staplers (not necessarily better) use fine wire staples. So if you found fine wire monel staples, they won't work in a T50, but the T50 monel staples made by Arrow sure will.

Is there a specific problem with 1/4" staples? I'd just hammer the ends over if they go through, but I don't know if that's ok in your application.

According to Arrow's website they don't have a t50 smaller then 1/4" and the t50 stapler shouldn't have trouble with the monel staples but stainless should be more then sufficient for a semi-protected site like the bottom of a seat.

Ok I will take a look and see what i can find

If they go through the seat pan, they come through the seat cover and ruin the cover. Not really ideal when installing a $175 seat cover, nor do I want staples in my rear whilst riding. I did speak with the seat manufacturer and they said they use 1/4 length when they assemble their complete seats so i should be fine. In the past I found 1/4 to be a tad long and had the above mentioned issue.

I used 1/4" when i recovered my motorcycle seat. Pan is plastic. They hold good.

yes the seat pan is HDPE. Even though the manufacturer said 1/4 long is ok to use I would still prefer slightly shorter as its borderline too long and some areas of the pan is only a few mm thick on the edges, and I feel like if I hit a staple just wrong it could end up piercing the side of the seat cover.

Im gonna try and find the Monel fine wire that will fit in the stapler, but in a 5/32 length.

Maybe try filing or grinding down some 1/4" staples?

I have considered that. I am gonna go ahead and order the cover/foam kit. The manufacturer said they use 1/4 staples so I am gonna pull a staple from the OEM seat/cover and measure it. If its a 1/4 inch I will use what I have.
