So I picked this up today the cylinder needs a rebuild or just replaced. I needed a engine house now I have one.

Anybody have an idea on the age of these machines?

When it stops raining. I’m still trying to figure out how to get it out of my truck

Back the tailgate up to the front porch, and roll it up or down as needed. Then slowly go down the steps, or on boards to the ground?

Back up into a steep driveway, stop with back wheels in the gutter, boards from the truck bed to the ground?

Hook up to eave w lift all down, then lower it after you drive the truck away by raising the lift?

So many options, none of them elegant. have never tried the 3rd, but the other two are SOP here.

Think I’m just going to dig out the atv ramps and use those.

Whoooo, living high, actually having ATV ramps. I really should upgrade the boards I use for my shredder, might make it a lot less exciting if they had nice transitions instead of bumps and drops.

The cylinder on this is single acting and pretty much the seal in it is gone as well as 1 of the 2 orings looks like the seal was leather.
Anyone know of a place I could get a replacement seal for this

I would look up a local hydraulic rebuilder, I’m sure there’s one around that can help you out. Looks like a nice old hoist, probably clean up good.

Clean up and paint will have to wait till next spring/summer. I have called around and haven’t really got a call back might bring it today to a small town hydraulic shop I know of.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that Piston seal is Undersized… Ha! Is that what was on it?

That’s all that’s there for seals the 1 leather? Seal and under the thick metal ring infront of that is an oring and theirs a oring in the threaded collar at the top. Idk if it right because when I took it apart the threaded collar at the top came out pretty easily and the nut at the bottom of the ram was on finger tight.

I’m certain someone has been in there previously, Piston seal in your picture is Way…. Too small, It would never seal the cylinder. It looks like you are missing a washer that sits between the nut/leather piston seal to aid in sealing the base of the seal. I suspect they tossed it because it wouldn’t fit inside the smaller seal.

Theirs bits of leather on the bottom of the cylinder itself. I’m leaning more to replacing this but its 27 inches retracted and 47 extended and I can’t really find one that size with those ends and it’s a single acting . Obviously I’d like to have it so I can use it the way it was intended and have the extension that this one has.

May have found a snow plow cylinder that’s close.
But I’m guessing that this would have been a leather cup seal at some point there is a thick metal spacer that’s about 7/8 of an inch under the leather seal.

So for the time being I got a long ram jack to put on this. Now I need to figure out some bushings or something to adapt it as the pin holes on the jack and the pin holes on the hoist are different. Machined parts would be great but I don’t think I can get that done at the moment. So I will probably have to make something up on my own.

Thinking a piece of 1 inch inside tubing/pipe slipped over the end of the jack and pinned in place. then some sort of end with a hole big enough for the jack pin. The base I don’t know just yet.
