Starret 486 - 1 micrometer

This is a 486 - 1" starret micrometer that is close to new condition but there is an engraving on it, you can see it in the pics.

I'm not that familiar with these kinds of tools but you can see in the pic there is a small white object, that is a tip.

Hit the shiney part with a hammer real hard, if it breaks its carbide.

I could not find that info on their website because the 486 is no longer made.

that doesn't look like it has a carbide tip. the white cylinder is the standard.
