I acquired this older set of Starrett 226 mics today from a local gentleman on Facebook today. I am very excited to bring them back into service. I'll polish up the frames tomorrow. I do have a few questions for the fine folks here.
1) The barrels are all very smooth but is there any lubricant I should use to keep them that way?
2) The 3-4" mic is missing the locking collar. Does anyone know where to find replacements?
3) I have looked around and haven't been able to find a Starrett 226 0-1", was this set sold without a 0-1"?

A Starrett 226 micrometer set did come with a 0-1" mic but it doesn't look like the other five. It has fractional to decimal equivalency charts printed on it. Here are a couple of pics of what a 0"-6" set came with. Ed.

I'm pretty sure they all did too Steve. I meant to attach this pic showing the other side of the 0-1" No 230 mic with the others. There were also a few options available on them including carbide faces as shown on the OP's set. Ed.

1) Starrett offer their own “tool and instrument” oil - probably just what’s needed. I’d be guessing if I said it was about an SAE 10 to 20.

2) I’d probably try Starrett themselves.

3) No, the ruggedised 226 mic’s were not, as far as I can recall, ever listed in 0-1”.

I think that’s probably because other options were available in that size, such as the “heavy duty” 238, or even the 230, as included in the sets!
