oh boy its been a long time... i have been working on cars way too much.. and just started to work on the shop again.

charger guy, small world eh? to go over 1200sq.ft you need to get a variance, it costs 400$ i think and you go in front of a board to explane why you need more than 1200sq.ft (dont tell them your going to run a business out of it, they dont like that)

jbauto, the S14 runs 10.54 n the 1/4mile with over 600whp with a ford c4 auto trans

this link is a bit out dated http://www.ka-t.org/brad_d.php

dragster the temps got down to -30c or -22f while i was working.

well for a update... the roofing is on, matches the house cambridge 30year shingles. All the rebar is tied in over a 10mill vapor barrier and 3" sm foam... i picked up the foam used, they take it off flat tar roofs. its in really good shape and has tar on one side. it was 5$ for a 2x4 sheet its called roof mate.

keep i mind that with the piles i can put what ever i want under it.. no need for strength.

i will post up some pics soon, this week im putting down1300ft of 1/2" pex and the pad will be poured on the weekend

well put down 5 zones 250' each, two of the loops are shaped like L's that sends the heat to the outer walls 1st. The wall with the 3 overhead doors has tighter spacing for it will have the most heat loss through the R16 doors. You can also see spots where the hoist will sit (two options)

You can see the 3" SM with a 10mm vapor barrier, the SM was from flat top roofs, good shape and cheap:)

the pad was going to be done this weekend but we had trouble lining up a line pump for the concrete.

It will be 1400sq.ft and will look just like the house.

Electrical passed inspection, so i got going on the insulation. Im using www.roxul.com its R22 and not too bad to work with. The corners are injected with foam, thats why the batts are not in the sides, and the panel is mounted over R10 2" SM, i will see what insulation i can stuff over the wires.

Now on to the vapor barrier.

some crappy pics time for a new camera or time to clean it..

Got all the drywall done, now to do the blown in in the roof

the bottom is dens armor plus, the upper walls are just 1/2" 4x8, and the roof is 4x12 5/8" fire guard.. not for fire but its better strength for the 24" centers on the trusses

Brad,

Your shop is looking great.

Those spots in your pictures may be airborn particles. I found that those show up if I sweep the floor just prior to taking a picture. If you turn the flash off, it usually helps.

Looks great! Maybe I missed it, but I don't think I saw a ceiling height mentioned on any of the pages... how high are they?

The ceiling is 12' plus the curb 4" to 8" slop.

And yep its cold in the winters, and im out in the open... but my place is only 15min to the city center.

Nice build, so what kind of heating system is going in? It is interesting to see the differences between areas of the world on how thing are adapted to the environment. Your electrical panel is like nothing I have never seen. In my experience I have never seen a white electrical panel.

Keep up the good work!

The heating system is 1250ft of pex, 5 loops 250' each and a 12kw boiler (hydro electric is cheap up here) With 3" of used roofing SM foam under the pad.. would not recomend that much unless you are built on piles with grade beam IMO

And the panels are stab-loc... everyone in the US seems to hate them, we love them up here in Canada. People say you can weld with the wires before the braker pops.. but I pop them from time to time not doing any thing crazy, I think they had a recall on the 15amp breakers way back and they got a bad name for it.

Well almost got all 16 T8 light fixtures up.. one was pretty bent up in the box, so back to store with that one.

We painted the darker color up pretty high, did this to help with the dirt off the white.

Now to install the hoist and some two fans where you see the light bulbs hanging

Nice build I'm super jealous of the size (mine is only 26x30). One question though as I am doing in slab heat in arctic conditions too. Will the 12kw boiler be enough in the middle of the winter for such a large shop? I saw you had R22 walls and 3" of insulation under the slab so I'll assume your at least an R38 roof and R19 garage doors but 40,000 Btu/hr is still pushing it in my opinion. Maybe add a little 3kw electric heater for when you have to pull a rig into the shop in the winter?

Really you have a great garage and this is just a suggestion, may not even be necessary...

Well to be honest i did not do the calculation www.wolseleyinc.ca did and they were told the spec of the build, the walls are R22 + 1.5" of SM foam and the doors are R16.5.. can you get a R19 door?

From what i have seen the 12Kw boiler should be enough, buddies with 1000sq.ft shops have under 10kw units

the boiler will be from here http://www.conceptmfginc.com/

but you could be right.. but i hope not :) cause i already have the right size wire run

You're probably fine, just not much room for error there in my mind. We share similiar winter temps right? (negative 30ish for at least a week every winter and lots of below freezing).

Oh yeah and I fat fingered keys when I stated the door insulation value, I meant R16... Really as long as you watch infiltration very carefully and you have a well insulated box it doesn't take that much to heat a building...

I ran through some -25 degree stuff with just the little 15 year old 25kbtu input (maybe 6kw output) garage heater and could keep my 26x30 at 70 degrees before I got the in floor heat running. But if I had opened and closed the garage door I don't think it ever would have caught back up at those temps!

Started this today... i must say the welds and fit and finish on the bendpak are pretty nice.. good thing I have the 6" curb with the 12' walls, cause this was a tight fit.
