I don't know about you, but I don't put my toolbox under the car when I'm relieving fuel pressure, whether its wood or metal.
Not to mention, smoking a cigarette while working on a fuel system is not a smart maneuver regardless of what your toolbox is made of. **** man, go outside and smoke your cigarette. My entire garage is made of wood, as is the house that's attached to it, my work bench, one of my toolbox stands, my loft, etc.... What's the difference if a toolbox is made of wood too???

ease up, it was only a joke! besides 9 out of 10 times I remember not to smoke when fuel lines are open!

One awesome box can't wait to see it all done. You are a very talented wood worker. I couldn't do anything close to that even with a set of prints and standing in Norm Abrams workshop.

Ok!!! I got the pics....

So far there are 19 drawers, with another 10 going in the last bank. I know alot of them appear nearly empty but thats how I wanted it... I wanted room to grow if needed...... so here we go!!!

WHEW!! I hope to finish this soon!!

My best wishes to a great woodworker and mechanic. :)

Just to say great job is not enough for the work you have done..

I bet this new box must have freed up a lot of room.

If I may ask what had you been doing with this great tool set?:headscrat

Thanks for the great post. You have made a lot of friends out here.:)

We are all waiting for the next pics.:bounce:

84Turbo, when you're finished there will be one thing left to do. Design your own logo, have it stamped/forged, whatever, and affix it to the box.

Then you'll be done! :pimpflash

Great looking box but the shots of the Buick made me feel really old. I worked on those things when they were new. How could they possibly be old enough to need a restoration?

Was researching this thread to look for some ideas regarding making drawers for under my trans bench for commonly used tools and parts

Kudos!
Very well done

Can I see a pic of the bottom of a drawer from the bottom side?
i.e.
turn the drawer upside down and then snap a photo

I think it's fabulous that you've decided to build your own tool box! I plan to make one too, but I am designing it with aluminum sheet and solid rivets (imagine that).

I really try not to pick at people's projects, but I am a bit concerned on the vertical pieces between each drawer. It doesn't look like you've planned for seasonal cross-grain wood movement...you may have an issue with splitting. You may do better in those center pieces with a horizontal cross bar at the bottom, a horizontal crossbar at the top, then two or three vertical crossbars to screw the drawer slides to (with a small vertical crossbar at the front, for appearance.)

Is pine just your favorite wood? I think it is great that you want to build an heirloom-quality piece and use all solid wood...that is cool...is there any reason you didn't step up to maple, or oak, or some other hardwood?.

Looking forward to seeing more pics as you progress.

Thanks for the kind words! :)

As a matter of fact, my neighbor and I were talking about that very thing (having double slides) tonight in the garage. I do have 3 or 4 drawers that will be very heavy... so I'll probably double those up.

I am putting the slides on the "bottom" of the side of the drawer, so on some if a double slide is called for then I have room to add one.

Im coming into this late but I love the build been thinking about this a really long time....
I see most of the info i was looking for but can you post the materials used for the drawers? Is it tongue in grove?
