This is a 20 X 28 garage we have been needing for years. We filled our pool in earlier this year and are now building over it. The size of the building is a bit weird, but that is as large as we could make it and stay within the city codes.
Set back is 5' min on back and side property lines and 8' min from the house.

What's the purpose of the holes in the bottom course every so often? Shown in the last pic.
Also how did you fill in the old pool? By that I mean, what was used to fill it in?

Kevin,

Those holes show the inspector that the rebar is present from the slab into the block. The rebar comes in from the top also. After inspection, the blocks will be poured full of concrete. We live in florida, so everything has to be built to a wind rating spec. Even the garage doors have to be rated for a wind load.
Regarding the pool, the concrete from the walls was cut up and removed. The hole was filled with many dumptruck loads of fill dirt, compacted as they were added. The pool was huge; 37' long and 18' wide.
The city required a compaction test to check out the work of the demolition job. We passed with a rating way above the density required.

Bib,

No stucco; paint to match the house. My house is a 1948 model block house (same year as my oldest Harley). The interior will be jammed full of old Harley and hot rod junk as soon as possible.

The latest inspection was a breeze, tomorrow the masons form up the pads at entry and exit doors and Thursday the walls and pads get poured. I will call the truss company next week and have them build the trusses.

What wind rating do you have to build to? Here in Ma. they are making me build to 110mph because I'm within 17 miles from the coast.

Well today was awesome, we set all the trusses and made the barge rafters as my dad calls them. We have to finish the corners, trim the truss tails and make the fascia. We should have the plywood on tomorrow.

Looks good. Nice use of space.

+10,000 on filling in the swimming pool and putting in a garage. I've had a couple of pools and a few garages. I like garages much, much better. :bounce:

Mike,

There are two doors, both are 7' tall X 12' wide. They cost about 700 each installed. I cant find the quote from Overhead door, but I asked Christy and that is what she said.
George

I am waiting for the custom gable vents. A buddy is making them from brazillian cherry, I want to paing the door openings with the trim color and then the building will be ready for it's final inspection.
I coated the floors and outside walls with a product called lasti seal. http://www.radonseal.com/concrete-sealers/lastiseal.htm

I will take some pictures of the floor in the next few days.

Did you post the pics of the lastiseal? I would love to know your experience with this...I'm looking at it very seriously :)
