Started tool box repaint

I decided that after 37 years it was time to repaint my 10 drawer craftsman top box and paint the bottom 4 drawer base to match. The top is silver with red drawers and the bottom is dark grey with light grey drawers. I bought some rattle cans in rustoleum red , hammer tone silver & grey primer.
Like a dumb azz I rushed the painting trying to beat the rainy weather we got last weekend. Today I wet sanded the base red drawers with 320 and they look kinda neat in flat red ..... I am going to try 800 1000 1200 1500 2000 next rubbing compound then polishing compound and see how they turn out.
I hope that I do not have to end up repainting all 14 drawers. At least the hammer tone silver on both pieces turned out looking fine. In the pics that I took they both look fantastic ...... ha ha wish they looked that good in person.
Yes I know the job is only as good as the prep work and sand in between light DRY coats.
I will post pics when I get it finished. I will just have to try and remember how.
I will have more money in repainting than I paid for the box 37 years ago....I should have given this set to my son and bought a HF when they where on sale.

I found the original craftsman line up brochure from when the box was new and it appears that at the time this color combo was what they used on their better boxes.
I bought it off the snap-on truck as a trade in for I think $35.00 in 1973.

Looks good! I did mine the same way except the drawer fronts are black.

Hey, the price was right and they look darn good.

We throw too much good stuff away that could be restored and work just fine.

Go to the dump some time and see what a waste of resources gets dumped that someone may enjoy, could reuse and reduce waste.

Does anyone know where I can get parts for an old MAC box. I inherited one form my old man that needs some work. The drawers are hard to pull out, not sure if the slides need to be replaced or just lubed. The paint needs to be redone also. I am thinking a full sandblast and paint job.

As much as I think the HF box is a good deal, that one restored is 1000X the box. Keeping the old stuff alive and going strong is awesome. Not to mention I really want a CMAN box of that style...

True. Sure the HF is a good deal and is a well made box, despite it's origins, but it just doesn't have the same appeal as a restored vintage box.

The HF also has the textured flat powder coat finish vs a nice glossy paint finish

That top box is the one, that series when that color combination was being used is from when Sears was selling the best boxes they've ever made. That to me is the classic Craftsman color scheme, of course anyone under 40 might not remember those days.

Thanks for the positive comments. I wet sanded the bottom drawers with 600 and this time took my time letting them dry between light coats. I would post another picture but they look no different in a pic. I am now pleased with the painting.
