So, I Just bought my house march of 2015 after doing some landscaping and house work i'm ready to ditch the two sheds that came with it when I bought it and start building my garage for the next 3 to 5 years.

I say 3 to 5 as I just turned 25 not married yet and figure once all that does happen I am sure with the combined income we will be moving. Because of that I wont be going all out on this build as i'm trying to minimize cost while maximizing the profit for when I do sell it.

I am going to be building a 30 x 34 (10' high walls) garage based off a pole design I plan on having a 16x8 insulated door, 8x8 insulated door and a 30in man door and three windows on one side. I will also have the first 20' all traditional attic trusses for storage then the last 14 scissor trusses for a lift. I looked all over probably got 30 different quotes (just for the materials) in the last 5 months. I am currently deployed, I am in the reserves and won't get back home for another 3 weeks, thus all the time planning and getting everything straight. I am going with a local lumber yard got a quote of $7900 which includes everything other than concrete (just got a quote tonight of $2600), the only thing after that will be wiring and A/C and heat and insulation. I will be building it myself with the help of some friends and pops.

I was going to wait to start posting this but I need some opinions on where my man door should be placed before the gf drops the plans off for review...I originally wanted the man door in the middle of the two but that was also when I was planning on a 34 x 40 garage. The reason why is because I have a weird shaped driveway and id like to have the entrance easily accessible when walking from the house to the garage and I don't want to have to pour any more concrete than I have to already. Now that I have less room in the front though, I am considering placing the building further up and putting the door on the side. So which way looks best? Does it look stupid in the front?

weird shaped driveway, as of now planning on putting the garage the same direction as the big shed and about 3 feet to the left of it. obviously both sheds will be sold:

Welcome to the board, looks like your plan wasn't bad, I had thought of the same thing by putting a man door on the same side as my garage door, but after things changed, I got rid of that one and went with a man door on the side.

For you though, I don't think it would be an issue to have your man door between the two garage doors, but maybe change the 16' door to another 8' one, then center the man door between those two? It might make it look a little better, and going with a smaller door will save you some money to be used for tools!! :)

Personally, I like the side door. I'd rather work with walls that are a little longer. I'd also consider moving each of the rollup doors in 1ft towards the centerline. This way you have a better opportunity to open car doors after pulling inside, and also have some storage space after pulling the car(s) inside. In other words, if the vehicle just scrapes in, there is a whole wall lost to things other than "skinny" stuff like rakes etc.

Thanks, I've been lurking for awhile getting ideas and just now starting to act on them! I would get rid of the 16 but I have to have a way for 3 vehicles to go in and out easily, my daily, gf's daily and of course the race car! And actually the price difference in the door is like 150 bucks :(

Thanks for the reply! The picture looks like there is less room than what there actually is. Both doors are 2.5ft from the corner and I'm like 160, unless I triple in size I can easily get out ;). Also I have a good amount of land on the other side of the house. I've decided to keep the big shed (since downsizing the size of the garage) and just place it over there. That's where the riding lawn mower, blower, weedeater, rakes anything yard will go. I'm also trying to purposely keep a decent amount of space between the two garage doors so I could always squeeze a car, bike, boat... in the middle if I had too, I buy and sell things all year long so I'd rather have a little less room on the sides to gain more room in the center. Plus it's a good buffer when painting is happening in the lift bay.
