Starting a JD210 lawn tractor restoration

Starwolve, nice idea on the flywheel puller! I'm pretty sure I used a steering wheel puller on my flywheel and accomplished the same thing.

Regarding flywheels, make sure none of the fans are broken off or missing as this will cause motor vibrations. Its similar to having a flywheel on a car with improper imbalance. My flywheel had 4 fans broken off, so I scrounged Ebay for a nice used one for cheap

Got a nice surprise from the man in brown when I got home yesterday. A bunch of goodies. Also, If anone knows how to get the steering wheel off, I'm all ears. It's on there good. Going to borrow a large gear puller today to try.

I was able to remove the nut, soak the splines in PB Blaster for a few hours. Then I took a rubber mallet and with bit of force tapped on the back of each wheel spoke and it popped off. If yours is really stuck this method may not work, but mine hadn't ever been off before and this method worked. Just go low with the force of hammer and work your way up, as you don't want to break the wheel. Jaw/gear pullers may leave gouges in the wheel from where the jaws touch.

Well, I've been moving right along with the build. Got the motor out, sheet metal off, and transaxle rebuilt. Picked up a gas tank online and am going to figure out a way to mount it under the hood for a cleaner overall look. Here's a befre and after. I'm happy with the outcome considering I've never redone anything like this.

Taking it to get sand blasted Friday. Also picked up a seat for it online. Need to get the rear wheel extensions bolted up and finish up painting the rims.

Haven't given an update in a while, but this is where she is sitting now. Got the frame sand blasted, primed, JD 110 model tank installed, motor running, rear rebuilt and widened. Now the reassembly starts.

Do you plan on painting the frame black? Might be good to paint it before reassembling. If you have a Fleet Farm (or similar) store nearby, look into the Valspar Tractor Restoration series of paints. I used their paint for everything on the tractor and used their hardener. I am VERY pleased with the durability of the paint. I believe the black used on the frame is a low gloss paint, but its been awhile.

I'm actually going all green. I did use the Valspar Restoration Yellow on the front rims. Great stuff. I assembled this far so I could fab up the new gas tank and layout the top frame cover. This I will disassemble and continue painting.

Haven't given an update in a while. The progress slowed with painting every little piece and reassembling. Everything has been made and painted. Now thrying to get it back together before a big show next week. Here is where she sits now. Working on the 4 sand down on the hood filling the scratches. Prep, Prep, Prep

That is really looking nice and the 210 is a great platform. I fixed up a 1966 Sears Suburban 10 Garden Tractor for my wife to use for her gardening but I didnt restore it and your giving me the itch to get going on it.

My son and I have had a blast making the thing. The 210 has been very easy to work with considering I have no idea what I'm doing. I know it goes against the purest who thought I should have restored the 210 to original, but oh well. It's something that hopefully many generations will enjoy down the road.

Just thowing this out, some models have a safety switch under the seat, ie raising off the seat and it dies. Looking good.
