Hey everyone, I guess this is my introduction post and my "build thread" is it in the right place?

Plans Include:

Full Insulation, walls, attic and sealing doors.

Add a few more 20amp outlets

Add 220, with an outlet on the ceiling and on the workbench wall

Install heater

Drywall and finish (I May texture with knockdown)

Install Racedeck

switch out the overhead bulbs with fluorescent bars

Build Cabinets and work benches.

This is a nice test of all of my skills and for me to learn before I finish the basement. So if something is messed up or looks weird. Its no huge problem since its just a garage

Your space looks eerily similar to mine, but with less clutter. I'm at the same stage of completion and was going to hang insulation this weekend and hang drywall the week after. I was able to put in a 230v outlet and plumb air lines from the compressor in my basement first. I had to be able to weld and use my plasma cutter before doing anything else.

10/7/2013 Update

Just about wired on the back wall, will be ready for drywall soon

-I'm adding 4 new outlets on a new 20AMP circuit (3 along work bench height, 1 for my TV) I'm thinking about adding one more by the HDMI IN banana plug box for the cable box and keeping the receiver and cable box in a nice cabinet..

-Split and grounded Coax cable, ran a spare coax to HDMI OUT just incase you don't want HD for the garage TV

-Ran HDMI through wall up to where the TV is going, next to the outlet

-Ran in wall speaker wire from banana plug faceplate to either side of the future TV, (in wall speakers going in)

GASP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:headscrat:headscrat:headscrat

JUST A GARAGE!!!! Come on now... You can mess up the basement all you want but make a mess of the garage and you will have us all stressed out! :willy_nil

Great start to the project, looks great! My only advice is to coat the floor with an epoxy to seal it so that any messy spils will keep from soaking in and staining the concrete...

Put in a duplex by the HDMI input . With a receiver, cable box, blue ray or anything else you'll need 4 outlets. I keep my phone charger in mine too. If your looking for decent in wall speakers try Monoprice they have a good bang for the buck 8" 2 way or 3 way. They even have a center channel. I have the 3 ways and the center channel and they sound pretty good.

I would think twice about the race deck flooring. I had it in our garage for 4 years and ended up up epoxy and prefer it. Cleaning the race deck was a PAIN. Winters were a mess.

Good luck and most of all have fun building it.

Hey Mike, welcome to the forum. Looks like this will be another fantastic garage build on this site. Progress looks good so far. Keep the pics comin'!

I love the ease & price of RD floors myself, and have been trying to decide between epoxy and RD tiles. For the reasons stated above is the reason I am leaning towards epoxy. But it too has it's own set of quirks (prep work is key!).

At the least, you owe it to yourself to check out the flooring section and become fully informed before going any route. I have found most flooring solutions have some trade-off, and most decisions are based on what you have as a starting base.

Good luck!

Welcome to GJ Mike. You have a nice build started, take plenty of pictures, enough is not enough, take more.

It's not "just a garage" it's your work area, your money pit, your sanctuary and your sanity.

Give it a few months and you'll realize that it's not big enough, your tool box isn't big enough either since this place will cause you to buy more tools that you ever thought you'll need.

I was thinking last night I really should put a duplex in, I probably will.

I already bought Polk Audio RC85i speakers, I think they should fit the bill
