Hello everyone! New here from a small town in Illinois. I will be starting a build a dream of mine here shortly. Just acquired some land and am looking to build what to me is the perfect dream home/garage, if it is possible. I have some questions about my build plans. If anyone could chime in on some that would be great. Im wanting to build a pole barn with a lower level being garage and upper level being living space. What I dont want is supports beams running inside the garage space. Just want a completely open floor. Is it possible to do this with a 30x60, 40x50 or 40x60 and also have enough height for a 2 post lift? And is it possible to not have supports running through the garage? Any info is greatly appreciated!

30' is possible with a wood floor truss, however it'd be pretty deep and you'd be spacing them close.
Wall height is no problem unless restricted by your county. Might check with them before you plan something you can't build.

Welcome to the forum.

Pretty much anything is possible, it all depends on how large your budget is and what the local building department will allow.

i was really hoping to go at least 40' wide. I would love to have 40x40 gargage space. Sounds like i may have to do a barndimonium style build if I were to go that route. Which I thought of doing 40x80 stick frame and split it 40x40 living 40x40 shop

Been looking into it a bit and am thinking a Gambrel style build will be my be best bet for this type of build. Not 100% sure on this if anyone could chime in? Use the Gambrel Attick trusses and make living quarters in that area. Is there any threads or builds on this page like that?
