After moving into our new home and having to stuff a 2+ car garage into a 1-car space, we've started moving forward on our new 24x40 garage/shop. The floor plan is done and we are moving onto the exterior and detail phases of the design.
The walls are going to be 8-ft studs on top of 2-ft stem or block. The ceiling of the garage is vaulted with a 14-ft height at the peak. Most of the automotive work will take place in the garage, it won't be for daily drivers. My FFR will live in the new space and my wife's daily driver will get to go inside, in the 1-car attached.
Once completed, I need to get started on this (http://thunderranch.com/356.html) for my wife. The plan is to have the over-head door track along the ceiling thus saving the overhead space.
The shop space will have a flat ceiling and the trusses are being spec'ed for attic storage. This space is planned for general repair and wood working. I'm thinking that I am going to move the "kitchen" area into the garage sharing the common wall with the bathroom and adding a sink (a deep one) in the bathroom.
It's going to be a while still so updates, for now, will not be frequent. I'd appreciate any comments/suggestions.
