My son is into steampunk stuff.
I built this lamp for him as a gift for Christmas.

The big pressure gauge was salvaged from the grade school he attended before it was torn down.

The red valve is the on/off switch.

Great work op. Your son will enjoy it! Any idea how the valve switches work? My simple mind only ends up with electrocution.

Your lamp looks great!!! I love the big gauge!

I built one last year. I couldn't find any big and old gauges like yours and I'd love to find a source for them that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.
I still get a lot of compliments on it!
Like yours, the valve is the switch. Made it myself with a microswitch rated at 250 volts and 5 amps. The valve pushes on the lever of the microswitch just when the valve closes. It took many hours and fiddling to get it to work right and with good insulation around it. And I still grounded the metal just in case!

Here's a pic!

Very nice. Did you draw arrows on the wiring so the electrons could get to the bulbs after going through all the 90s?

:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

All those 90s reduce the 120V input voltage to a safe 12V I think. ;)

:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

It was tough to draw the arrows let me tell you. At first the bulbs were only half as bright as they were supposed to be, and I realized half the electrons were getting lost on the the negative phase of the AC so I had to remove all the one way signs and and and put in separate conductors for each half of the phase! So now the lights are at full brightness!

That's a good-looking job.

When my wife retired after 41 years as an electrical engineer, doing settings for power transmission for the majority of her career, the gift she got was an analog power meter, made-into a lamp, on a beautiful wood base, and a plaque with her name and service dates on it. It looks pretty-cool on an end table.

It would be even more cool if you could get the needles on the gages to go up when the light gets turned on.
