If anyone is thinking of buying a Steck studlever to use with their stud welder, don't bother. The concept is great, but even the gentlest use will snap the tool in half.
I was ultra conservative with the pulling force and it still snapped. Checked Amazon feedback and 25% of buyers complained of the same issue.
They probably moved production to China in the last few years and this is the result.
At least you get a couple of useful parts to make your own clone out of 6061 scraps.

I think Steck makes their tools in the USA. I have had great success with their stuff although I have not used the lever. I have wanted one though. I know their customer service is top notch. I'd give them a call or an email and see what they say. How old is the stud lever?

I bought the stud lever about a year ago but only just used it. Not kidding, check the reviews, fully 25% of people have had the same experience as me. I know Steck used to make this in the USA, one guy even commented that he'd had one for years and just wore it out, bought a new one and it broke first pull. Another guy broke his first time out, got a replacement and it broke first time too. Loads of reviews, all broke in exactly the same place.I suspect these are now made in China.

I'll give them a shout, but I reckon my aluminum one will do the trick.

That ***** if it's crappy quality because it seems like a good idea for a tool. I'd definitely give them a call. Nothing to lose.

Agreed, I will call them. Can't really send it back now though since I've scrounged a couple of the parts.
