My wife wanted a console table for the house. I made this and thought it was decent enough to post.
I ordered the wood beam from a mill in Ohio. The base is two - 3" steel square tubes, bolted internally on either side of a 6" square tube, and then those pieces are welded to a steel base plate. The ornamental disks are punched out of 0.25" plate and are mounted useing 7/16 bolts that's heads are welded inside of the 6" steel tube and face outwards. Lastly the finials that look like large nuts (a few missing in pictures because i still have to 'make some love' to them) are pieces of hex steel that are cut on the lathe and their ends are chamfered. They are drilled and tapped to thread onto the bolts welded into the legs.
The steel is rubbed down good with Penetrol-Flood. Like any steel, it will eventually show surface rust, even in my a/c year-around house. But, a light sanding over and re-apply of the oil shouldnt be much trouble.
Thanks for looking.
