I am contemplating the differences between putting up a stick garage vs. a steel building. There are all these ads for unclaimed, best prices, etc., who makes a good building, and who has truly, the best prices?
I live in South Carolina, I am willing to drive to N.C., or GA to pick up if it would help with costs.
Thanks,
Mike

I am VERY impressed with steelbuildings.com Look to the upper left and use the 'price building' button. This is assuming you want a 'real' building like a warehouse. I havent researched one car steel buildings

Lets see I would rate the "Steel Buildings" as

BEST to ......"Less Best" :)
red iron building ( most commercial buildings are made this way)

A hybried building ( some type of metal "web" trusses and then wood for the purlins and girts)

A Pole building ( wood poles, girts, and most use wood roof trusses for a clear span)

A "Quansit hut" <SP?> type ( most look like a half of a large culvert pipe, But there are modified types that have straight walls too.

I built a red iron building and I purchased it from www.steelbuilding.com Are they the greatest?? no. Would I buy another from them?? yes I would.... What I really liked about them was no scuz ball sales person pushing some scam. You design the building and if you like it you can order it w/o even talking to anyone if you want to. However their people will answer any questions you may have. The down side is that you will have to arrange the errection of the building, they will not come out and put it up for you.

You can see its construction in the link below.

I like pole construction...economical, easily adaptable for attic storage, lots of companies to choose from. Stick building is OK, too but it usually takes a lot longer to build.

A good crew can erect a 1500 sq. ft. pole building in a couple of days. The concrete pour is usually less $$, too because you only have to from at the doors...the bottom sidewall girt becomes the wall form.

Around here a 30X40X10' pole building goes for around $9900.00 erected...the concrete will add another $2500 to $3000 depending upon your area.

Check your codes for what's allowed in your area.

I have a Pioneer Steel Building S Type: Straight Walls/Arched Roof.

Whatever Building Type you choose, MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE FULL COST!

Steel Buildings get you enclosed quickly and economically, but finishing the interior costs more

Would you mind elaborating on that? i'm considering one myself. i would guess that electrical would be more expensive/complicated, but what else will bite you?

So when they show a 50x36 for $12k ****-naked, and $18k with accessories, we're actually looking at more like $60 by the time it's ready to park in? Where does all the money go?

I spent about $300.00 for site preparation plus a couple hundred for fill when I built my 30X50 pole building. My concrete was about $2500.00 finished...4" with fibermesh...no wire or rebar. My electrician charged roughly $200.00 to install my 200 amp panel and two outlets (I did the rest of the wiring). I don't think the power company charged to run the underground cable to my shop (only about 50 ft.)...if they did, it was pretty cheap. My building permit was about $15.00...now they charge by the value of the project.

Some of you may remember that I bought a used 50X100, moved 1500 sq. ft. to my lot and sold the remainder after I gutted the building of it's electrical, plumbing, insulation and interior walls.

Minus heat, I have about $5000.00 in it.

About $20 per square foot for slab and shell erected. No lights , no wires, no insulation. That's for a meatla building built to hurricane specs. Site prep and concrete was almost as much as the building.

I am in the process of putting up a 30 x 60 x 16 metal building from Duro Span. It has the straight walls and the rest is the curved panels. We could probably put this thing up in 2 weekends, but I am putting it up as I get the help. A few arches at a time. Had 6 arches put up and Hurricane Katrina came along and blew it down. Insurance took care of that. Now I have about 16 arches up out of a total of 29. I got the 2 endwalls with mine with I think 10 x 12 door openings. I paid 8000.00 for the building and 8500.00 for the slad, so I have about 16500 total in mine for now. I priced some rollup doors, I think I will make the doors myself.

Would I buy another building like this. Sure would, I find somewhat enjoyable putting it together all 6000 nuts and bolts.
