Steel building for homes

Hey guys/gals. I recently came across some lakefront land for sale just south of Houston for a fairly decent price. It's just over half an acre (.65). All of the homes that we saw out there were custom built. Some homes were stucco, brick, stone, siding and anything else you can think of. I've been researching steel buildings for homes, but I had a couple of questions/ideas. Will I be able to add stucco, stone veneer, siding, brick, etc. to the outside of the steel siding to cover up the steel siding? I'm sure that I could, but what say you? Has anyone on here done this? I've seen the interiors of metal homes completely framed out just as a traditional home, but I was just curious about the exterior. Thanks for all comments in advance.

Decide where you want your change in exterior treatments and make the needed changes.
There is a lot to this [not rocket science] such as flashing requirements and dissimilar materials adjustments.
There is no sense in putting on metal just to cover it up.
Do a exterior design yourself and research with your list what is needed.
Materials such as EFIS require special treatments.
I know this a general annswer, but you need more specfics.

That is done all the time around this area on commercial buildings. The front for example will be covered in styrofoam and then stucco or it could be bricked.

The exterior steel serves as a structural component but it can be covered just like any other exterior siding would.

Very true. I've seen it done 2 different ways. I've seen the metal siding covered up with whatever exterior aesthetics such as brick, stone veneer, or stucco and I've seen the metal/steel frame done the same way without metal siding.

Thanks. I was reading your thread earlier today and it fell into place since the area I'm looking at doesn't have specific builders in the neighborhood.

Also check Rockford buildings... Their site and literature shows some interesting possibilities.
