Steel building lean to question

I have a 40x60 steel building and am wanting to build a lean to on the back 60' wall. I would like to build it out of treated lumber but that may not be best so I need some suggestions. If I do use treated lumbar, how do I attach the rafters to the existing building? Could I bolt a 2x10 through to the beam?

Any advice is welcome.

Are snow loads going to be involved in this?

I would think, if the building's existing structure is strong enough to support the lean to, you would just make spacer blocks out of pieces of 2x lay flat in the valleys of the sheetmetal, and bolt your ledger board up to the wall, thru the spacers (to keep from crushing the sheet metal ribs), and on thru to columns, wall girts, etc.

That's the direction I am thinking as well. I'm in Louisiana so snow is not an issue.

I will be doing the same basic thing except it will be a porch attached to the building. One thing to think about is that the modern treated lumber has some pretty harsh chemicals it and requires fasteners that are rated for treated lumber.

I mention this because I wonder what the treated lumber will do up against the painted steel? Is the paint enough to protect the steel or should something be placed between the steel and the treated boards?

What part of Louisiana?

I would recommend building the lean to frame out of steel and have the steel building company pre engineer the buildings exterior to be ready for wood. Most likely your gonna need to get approval from your city or county to build, with the pre engineered drawings you receive from a metal building company you will be able to get those permits. Im assuming there is a high wind load in Louisiana.
