Howdy Gents, I'm in the market for a steel building (30x33) and I'm having a tough time getting a quote, I've filled out some quote forms and sent emails to the a few places but not getting much of a response. I've had a few casual conversations but no hard numbers. I've been told there's a current lead time of 10-12 weeks, maybe this is a result of lumber prices being high and more people going with steel rather than stick builds? Curious of anyone's recent experience or insider knowledge about whats up with the steel building market. FYI I'm in Colorado.

I don't know about Colorado, but getting a quote on any kind of construction is nearly impossible around here. Everyone is busy building new houses and subdivisions. I recently had some concrete work done, and only one guy out of the many I contacted even got back to me.

I work for a steel building manufacturer and I can tell you we are swamped right now. And on top of that getting vertain material to fabricate parts is also tough right now. Prices are up steel prices are up. Alot of demand and not enough supply. A small building like that may not peak anyone's interest. May have to go with a pole building.

I sell and erect metal buildings and it is tough right now. Steel prices are going up every day so quotes don’t hold very long. Demand is high and supply is slow.

Where are you located? PM me and maybe I can provide some options.

Thanks all for the replies, it confirmed what I was afraid of, just when I have the space and money, the whole industry blows up. 🙄

Follow up question: Any idea whats causing the crazy demand? and any idea if things will settle down any time soon (this year)?

@Readhead my post count is too low so you'll have to PM me or I'll make a few posts to get to the required minimum.

Swamped. They should be able to get you a bid on the steel kit, no problem. You should probably upgrade to phone call to the local rep. If you've filled out the forms, you can reference those when calling your local sales rep.

Around here, they're slammed..

The space and money will still be there next year.

Covid/Unemployment has put a big hit on supply. People are home more so the money they would had spent on a vacation trip is being utilized around the house.

Everyone expects numbers to flatten but who really knows. If people realize they can charge 3x the old cost, they will continue to do so.

Good Luck!

Here, it's that the housing and construction market has hit an all time historical high. Houses that go on the market are getting above-asking offers with no conditions, being taken "as-is".

If you can build it, you can make a profit on it. Neighbors built a house they have $600k into, it was built in the last 1.5 years. They're asking $980k on the market this week. They'll likely get it.

Concrete, framers, laborers, they all have more work than they can handle. Our HVAC guys is booked out for a month and says he could work 24/7 and still not get caught up..

Covid did constrain supplies on somethings, which cause construction delays... And in a few places the labor market disappeared while covid was being sorted out.

I'm no economist, but with the Trillions in dollars we're printing and giving away, near 0% interest rates, sure smells like inflation to me...

Steel Pricing are the result of Plant going back to nearly full production (anything with steel) . No reserve of steel to be had, so the price of steel goes up, the price of fuel goes up, so on and so on until...Wood is the same, plywood and drywall as well......
