So I recently acquired this cart off of CL

I want to build a “mobile” steel storage cart. Something where I can load up my steel pieces and scraps and have it stored near the wall but be able to pull it out into the open garage and search thru it for pieces....

I’m looking for ideas or pics what you’re using if it resembles something I can do with this cart. Thanks!

I like your metal bin idea. There have been some of those type carts on Craigslist in my area. I been thinking of getting one to put heavy stuff on. As far the bin I would build a square frame at whatever height is good. I would use expanded metal for all sides. That way I could see lower in bin. Without digging everything out all the time. Just my thought on it.

That’s kind of what I had in mind... I have the steel for the framing, it’s the expanded metal I don’t have, but I know I can buy it if need be. Another idea was to use old bbq grill grates for the sides since I have a few of those...

Thanks garagetime!

If you want something simple, get a 55 gallon drum and make a divider for it. This works great for me.

What is the tip factor, the one in the picture has the wheels all the way out at each corner, Yours has them under it, Does it have 3 or 4 wheels?

It has 4 wheels... a lot of weight at the edge will tip it, but I plan on keeping the weight more evenly spread and with crates holding lots of short pieces sitting on it too.

This is another storage rack I built. It holds all of the material for the lathes. Built from scrap plywood it has casters also. The dividers are half notched to slip together.
