How are you guys placing your metal ceilings with the longer truss distances of 10ft and 12ft, without sag? Looks as if you would add more stringers between trusses for the additional support?

My garage's trusses are set on ten foot centers. I used white R panel inside and even put about six inches of cellulose on top of that. No sags; the R panel has enough strength to avoid any sag. (Just to be clear, the R panel is 26 gauge).

I have 9 or 10' spans with 29ga steel ceiling and blew R60 cellulose in the attic. I noticed a bit of sag but its not noticeable unless you look for it.

Thanks!

Mit- did you add any other structural material besides what you see in my picture?

No. I had metal trusses, but I just used the metal self-tapping screws that came with the R-panel. Nothing added structurally. R-panel will add enough strength by itself.

At this point in your planning process, I would check with the manufacturers recommendations for a maximum span.

Well I assume the trusses are rated to carry the weight of the metal ceiling panels plus the added weight of insulation. I was referring to the ceiling mfg. They should be able to tell you the distance the various gauge metal can safely span.

I'm using EPS foam and have a 2x6 running parallel in between the trusses. Under that I have a 9" wide piece of sheathing that creates a shelf for it to sit on you could use this for steel in order to get your fire rating.
