Just curious what steel price are these days for new channel tube plate etc. And if anyone's priced aluminum? Been a while since I've bought any but had a few projects might want to do. Last time I priced was few yrs ago channel .60 a pound and tube anywhere from .80 to over a buck a pound for more special sizes etc.
In Canada so exchange and all will effect my numbers

It's pretty high...I'd suggest going to a real metal supplier rather than a metal supermarket like place. The metal supplier I used last fall was a good 20-30% less.

Mild and Galv are around 1.30. Ss and aluminum have shot up a LOT in the last few weeis. I think we’re paying 3.60 + for ss

steel has skyrocketed for me. A local supplier closed up (retired), they were always reasonable. now the only game in town is Metal supermarkets & they have always been very pricey for low volume users

12L14 has more than doubled what I was paying last year. Aluminum alloy is more than 3x what I was paying last year.

Paying about a $1/lb for open shapes and plate and 1.30-1.40/lb for pipe.

Stainless is absolutely bonkers if you can get it. Just bought a 20 ft stick of 3x3x1/2 angle $1700

I have a good price agreement from my supplier - around $ 1.35 Cdn for hot rolled shapes IIRC. Had to use retailer last week (Friday, too late for big place to pick small order) and paid about $ 1.75/lb. (again not real money, just Loonies) for angle. Have enough Al inventory I hope to take me through, but SCAREY expensive right now. Bank "economists" shoot their mouth on the **** tube daily commenting on the 5.5% inflation looking more like 7%.....I just throw something at the screen as there is virtually NOTHING I buy that is less than double what it was 18 months ago.

Our sources are telling us the market has "stabilized" and will now roll with inflation for the most part.

The outliers will be Stainless and Nickel and a few others that their "components" come from other parts of the world.

Aluminum...we are on spot buy for the most part. Price is determined when the stock is put on the truck. Predicted to "climb monthly".

December 2020 we end the year charging $0.68 per pound and December 2021 we ended at $1.70 and that was down from a peak of $2.10 in Oct-Nov for certain gauges that were on allocation.

Still scarfing up from barn, yard, garage, estate sales. Gets down right embarrassing sometimes. Hour ago grabbed 6’ square hitch tube, 3sq ft of 1/8 plate, 3’ chunk of 4x2 1/4”, 25# of various nuts and bolts. Now I’m $ 11.75 lighter.

Sothern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois has increased steel prices. Flat sheets are up all most 40% IF you can find the gauge you want.

I want some Flattened expanded metal , my guy didn't have any and no idea if he could even get it.

The steel supplier's over here will only hold a quote for 24 hours. I don't know what the actual prices are as I never get to see the bills, only that the steel frame price for a 5,000sq foot building iz more than the 10,000sq foot one we put up in 2018.

It’s pretty stupid that steel and aluminum is almost cheaper at Princess Auto than the local steel shop.

I think I will be taking advantage of my brothers trips to the steel yards in Calgary when he goes then pick up whenever I at his place here and there.

I get pretty good rates and am still paying in the upper 90 cent range per pound for mild steel sheet and plate, but to get that price I have to spend several thousand dollars.

just bought 60' of 1/8" x 5" flat, and 24' of 1 1/2" square tube. Just over $300 so thats almost $2/lb. Delivery $35 + $25 fuel surcharge after that.

Ouch that thing is pointy!
