A steel rack, made from a steel rack!

Just a caution, without starting a PVC airline discussion on safety, but you should move that water trap and air outlet so no chance of bumping it with a piece of steel. That could get ugly if the PVC broke due to getting hit.

Pretty nice, but I'd feel a lot better welding a triangular gusset or a little angle brace under each arm, but I always err on the side of 'over-building' and I'm embarrassed if I can find something at Menards (imported!) that's stronger than what I welded up myself. :S

One thing I try to remember is that welding still doesn't trump basic structural techniques, like braces, and physical laws like triangulation, etc.

Lot of air in there. Also, against a wall in my shop would be a no-go. Too much stuff around; too hard to get to.

The air line is temporary, I removed what was there to put up the rack. I have a new system going in. The large

filter is for my blast cabinet. It is all going to be replaced.

This is another area of a shop where I dun it or seen it done about very way it can be. The view changes in the rear view mirror. I do have a minor rack for 20 ft and havnt bought any I didn't chop in half or use immediately in quite some time.
I see a lot of new setups dedicate a lot of effort to long stock, great if real inventory of its nature is part of the plan but less than full length really pipe up in a hurry.
Some shops with a gob of fab equipment toss most of it, faster and cheaper to make than to store.

You have a good amount of stuff, I might have been tempted to use 4 posts, still could, add one move one and add pegs for half pieces in between. 10 is in between size, I got a couple spo0ts for it.
I saw another rack on here a while back that had good start but a lot of free space could have been double stacked.
I have a set of shelves anything to 5 or 6 ft gets stacked acros and overhead so a guy can walk under, shorts and heavier pieces lower and most of it gets cut to "stock" before it gets stacked as assemblies rarely work out and are hard to store.

If I started over could revise a couple things but really got all I need and then some. The small short rack takes the place of a lot of tools. About 90% of the jobs I do I find about 90% as close to ready made as I can get.

The short storage is where the real imagination comes in.

I have the ten foot long rack because I buy 20's have them cut in half, bring them home in my jeep and use as necessary. I am

working on the 'shorts' storage right now. Suppliers are close by so no need to keep too much. A little bit of everything is what

I have. The uprights go to the floor and the heavier things aren't even on the rack.

ok back to work.

I'm jealous of all that open wall space. My garage has none from the front to the back. I need yet another shed I think.
