I need a rack to store numerous amount of steel (angle, tube, flat .etc) , lots of 10 foot pieces but some shorter rem . Need to keep it small enough and right now It seems making an a frame style with HD casters so i can move it as it needed. Id like one i can keep steel vertical but being 10 foot tall and being able to get to each piece without moving a bunch out of the way to do so may be a challenge. Any pics of what you have made or ideas are appreciated.

Basically I have 3 racks. A cantilever-arm rack which is horizontal for 12 foot pieces. I filled in between the arms with plywood for shelves so I can go shorter without pieces falling thru. Then shorter pieces in the 6ft or less range especially round stock like drill rod go in a vertical rack. Really short pieces go in a drawer. Plus fat pieces some of which are 4" dia.

Having casters limits is going to eat more floor space because the base has to have a wide footprint, although you could probably do an "A" frame design and have double cantilever-arms on each side. Depends if its going to live in the center of the shop or against a wall and how much turnover you have...

At one time I had this punched angle iron (thin) framework in a boxed shape. Really difficult as you could not see stuff and pieces that got below a certain length always wanted to fall through.

Its definitely a challenge due to the potential for constantly changing lengths.

Yes and long turns to short. I see one on a forum recent I thought, wait till they cut the first piece off and realize they built a rack for all new 20 ft stock which will be short lived.

This is one I built a while back. best thing I did to control this stuff. Works very well. And there are some good pics of what others have done also. :)
