steel roof question

First & foremost I would like to thank every one who responded to my post in the past. I have always got good and factual advice from everyone!
So I'm going to experts again.
I am looking to go with a steel roof. Plan to use furing strips for continuity in metal sheets. I have heard, you can add to 1 layer of assfault (sp) shingles with no problems.
I have 2 layers of shingles.
So am I screwed or not.
Ranch style home with very litte problems of snow load.

you're probably better off stripping the asphalt shingles and then you can put the metal roof right on the sheathing and if there is any problem areas on the roof sheathing you can fix those as well

Strip it.
If you house is old enough to have two layers of shingles on it, then it is old enough to have some rotten spots under those two layers.
It will cost more and be messier but you will be happier in the long run.

First, I would see what the manufacturer of the metal roofing you are going to use recommends. Second, always put down new underlayment. If it were me, I would opt for removing the old roofing. That gives you a chance to replace any sheathing that looks good from inside the attic but bad on the exterior side(and that does happen). Plus, some types of metal roofing look better without old roofing material underneath.

If you are still thinking about not stripping off the old shingles, check one more place before you nail on that new roof. Your insurance agent! They have some rules and regs that sometimes over rule the simple "can it be done?" answer. Much better to know before than after.
