Steel Security Door Hinge Pin

Hopefully someone may know.

Here at my brother in laws business. Top Hinge Pin Comes out Easily.
Bottom one ain't budging. Can't get a good look on the bottom. Vise grips on pin head and hammering ain't moving this. Awl on bottom pin ain't shifting it.

Is there such a thing thing that the pin was -ribbed- and it was hammered down ? Can't figure out heads or tails if this pin is something permanent and that is why I'm getting nowhere. I'm saying permanent since it is steel security door.

I don't see anything like a setscrew or anything that is holding the pin from backing out

Maybe a set screw on backside holding it in. For safety. Otherwise maybe pin is upside down,could be hitting wrong way. Just guessing

Use your cell phone to take a pic of the bottom, looking up. If you are a serious Luddite, borrow some ones. Much handier than an inspection mirror.

But I’ve never seen one locked in. I have seen several where the install was so bad there was lots of pressure on the pin, and you needed to pull all but that pin, torque the door, them the last pin came out.

Are you trying to get it out with the top pin removed or partially out? I did this once and it "pinched" the bottom pin. When I re-seated the top pin fully, then tried the bottom one it can out easier. Still a *****, but easier.

Also, try removing it with the door open at different amounts? Fully open vs partial vs cracked as small a possible?

Always remove the bottom pin first. Once the top pin is out the bottom pin is torqued. Without a picture it's hard to guess what the problem could be.

Top pin not removed. Just moved enough so that I can see that it could be removed.

IMHO, Big Box Store Security Doors, like locks, serve only to keep honest people honest.

A friend of my son asked him to check on a tenant that had not been mailing his rent check. I was inside the house in minutes, without leaving anything but a reminder the rent was overdue. We left no sign of a forced entry. Two pry bars popped the door open without damaging the paint.

The property owner received his check promptly.
