I am to the point whee I need to panel the ceiling and walls of my new shop. I have planned to do this with the same siding material I have on the outside of my 3000 sq.ft. shop. Recently someone mentioned that doing so would result in a noisy condition because of the steel paneling, I have not had any experience with this type of application, tried to search the General Garage Discussion with no posts dealing with my question. If you have used metal siding in your shop I would appreciate hearing from you about any noise problems.
Thank You

Thank you very much for the links, I learned a great deal from the posters. I haven't seen anyone post that steel siding creates a noise problem so I will most likely go with it.

I have steel both in and out and happy with it. Outside to inside I have steel siding Tyvek, OSB, foam board, Fiberglas, smart siding. I don't hear a whole lot from the outside.

My last shop was all steel.
Really liked it, roof was trusses 24" OC with 1/2 OSB 30 lb felt then 36" metal roofing. Exterior walls metal too. The interior was all lighter gauge but still metal on walls and ceiling(white).

I partitioned off 24x40 of my shop and did the ceilings and walls with steel liner panel from Menard's. It's a bit lighter gauge, and has a shorter warranty than the outside metal sheet, but costs less. I also insulated the ceiling and walls with various thicknesses of fiberglass and foam board.

I don't find that it's noisy at all, and even when there's a very loud thunderstorm with heavy rain it's not very loud in there. If I walk out into the rest of my building the noise is pretty darned loud with just the metal walls and roof and nothing else.

I can't imaging using anything else at this point. It costs less, goes up fast, cleans up easily and has almost no downsides. It's a bit harder to fit your outlets neatly, but it's not impossible. It's also not easy to fix a dent, but so far (crossing fingers) I haven't had any serious issues with that.

It's is noisy if you have an empty shop. Once you start filling it that aliviats and disrupts the sound. My 40x60 is not noisy at all, but it usually has multiple vehicles, benches, racking and boxes in it

I want to thank all of you that responded to my noise concern question. Maybe I started to think that with steel walls it would be noisier that I wanted. Your responses have made me feel better about my selection, so when I return I will run my electrical and cover it up with metal siding.
