I am in the early stages of garage planning. I am working with an architect for drawings etc but will do most of the work myself. I have some background in building and my cousin who will be helping is in the trades. My garage is going to be attached to my house so I am going to have to go down 4 feet to set footers. Then build a stem wall on top

Was stumbling around the youtube and found this guy.

Now those X flat ties that he is using are traditionally used in a metal form with a wedge not plywood. He is just plunge sawing slots in the plywood running the flats through and he is then using metal rod as whalers to connect the flat ties through the loops. It seems intriguing to me to setup forms this way. I know it is a totally out of spec usage but this internet sensation seems to think that this is an acceptable way to run them.

this one shows the metal rod whalers

Would running two 2x4 horizontal whalers top and bottom and then metal whalers and flat ties be worth trying on a ~4' tall wall? or am I thinking crazy? I would tie the corners in better with more 2x4 whalers and brace etc. This guy seemed to pour an 8' basement wall without blowout. Obviously I don't want to risk a blowout of the forms but I can't imagine with metal whalers the concrete is going to go anywhere. But I will probably endup just doing it traditionally with double 2x4 whalers and circular snap ties.

thanks
