Step up to Step-Ups?

Okay, here's a question I hope someone can answer - is there a best maker of step-drill bits? I've seen Milwaukee, Irwin, Craftsman, and Harbor Freight and they all sort of look alike. I suspect the titanium nitride ones will hold up longer but I don't actually know. Anyone have experience with any of these brands (or any others)? I only need them to drill into soft metals now.

Irwin's arn't bad. Greenlees are good. Alot of guys have had fairly good luck with the harbor freight ones if not a comon use tool.

I bought a 3 piece set from Eastwood several years ago and they are still holding up well, but I don't use them everyday. I also bought the HF large size set for the rare occasion I needed to drill a massive hole. There is definitely a difference between the 2. Not sure who makes the Eastwood but they're at least middle of the road. I have also heard the Irwin's are good. If there is one size you'll use a lot I'd splurge on that and go cheap on the ones you would barely use.

I like the single flute step drill more. From my experience the double flute jams easier.

Thanks, guys, for your advice. Probably going to go with the Irwin for the everyday and the HF for occasional use.
