I have a yard sale receiver running a pair of Yamaha speakers. I spent abut $75 on the speakers 10-years ago and $5 on the receiver. It is the second receiver I've had. They last about 5-years then die. Speaker wire runs along the top of the cabinets which is where I ran the FM antenna. The speakers are hung on some "L" corner braces from the tops of the cabinets.

I have a TV in the garage and Direct TV. When I want music I just turn it to one of the music channels from XM that are on there....

No matter what approach you take, one thing to keep in mind is how far your head will be from the speakers. I like to have my speakers arranged so that I'm not blasted by them when working in one part of the garage, but then having them far away while working in another part.

I've got an old sony 5.1 receiver that i've had for years. It's going in the back corner of my shop, with the cerwin vega 10" on either side. I put all the speaker wiring in the walls. I still need to come up with some bookshelf size speakers for the other side of the garage. I still have to machine out the blank plates for the speaker terminals too.

Either way, hide the speaker wires in the wall if you can once you have things planned out.

P.S. I got sirius satellite antenna on the roof and that is what i listen too 99.9% of the time while in the garage.

I bought a bad azz system I think you guys will like. It has the power needed to avoid being drowned out by the compressor and air tools, but it has everything else too. I can even play my PS3 on it. 800watts of power, 12 inch sub, four three way 6.5 21 inch tv, ipod dock, it even rolls out to the back yard for barbecues and games.

That is one of those systems with the "new deregulated watts" that you have to divide by a factor of 100 or 200 or 300 or so to get the real RMS Watts.
Anyone remember the "Stereo Wars" with peak power, dynamic power, or music power, back in the 70's??? Since Reagan and deregulation none of the new "watt" figures means anything except the new stereos can put out a single loud click or pop. The "watt" figures they boast are a meaningless joke.:lol_hitti
