Anyone know if I can use the output from an MP3 player to connect to an input of an old component stereo system?

you mean like a line in connection? i don't see why not. put the volume on the mp3 on low and work it up as needed.

I connect my iPod to my stereo with a mini-plug to pair of RCA jacks. Hooked up to the line inputs (CD input I think.) Works very well.

like they said.
1/8th to rca will work if you want to put in on L&R inputs.. Just remember when you find the cable that not separated for left and right.

this would work
http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio...rs/mini-plug-to-rca-adapter/prodPIM00071.html

or if you want to put the setup further away from the input
http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio-video/adapters/rca-to-1-8-3-5mm-adapters/35-557/prod35557.html
and put another rca cable to get you the rest of the way.

edit: lol. like he said. haha.. damn it took me awhile to write that. lol.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

I just realized that the MP3 player charges through the USB connection, which I don't have in my workshop. Is there such thing as a USB charger or adapter that I can plug into a wall outlet?

Save yourself a few dollars and go to Monoprice.com Great cables and excellent prices. Make sure you have your ipod volume to max, or you'll have issues getting any volume thru the stereo.
