Alright, I'll look more into these dots.
You can set up two Echo Dots as a stereo pair, and place them in different areas of your shop/work space/whatever, to give you nice surround sound. Right now, the Echo Dots are $29 each on Amazon. That is a great price for them, as they are normally $45 each.
With two Echo Dots, or even two larger regular Echo devices if you want even better sound with more bass, you will have the ability to play millions of songs, all for free, from free music streaming services. You can also get most regular FM radio stations over the internet, as most of them stream their stations now as well as broadcast them over the airwaves.
Besides that, with the Echo devices, you will also have the ability to turn the music on and off, adjust the volume up and down, change stations, turn lights on and off, ask questions and get answers, find out what the weather is/will be, and much, much more, all using just your voice!
Once set up, plugged in, and put into place, you would never have to worry about getting dirt and grease from your hands on your stereo equipment.
And as others have mentioned, they can get pretty loud if you want them too. Above volume level 4 and they can easily get past most room noise.
I have 7 Echo devices in my house now for all those reasons. I have a regular Echo in the garage, two Echo Dots on the breezeway (paired up for stereo), one regular Echo in the basement, and three Echo Dots in the house that are grouped with our Sonos speakers we have throughout the house.
I love listening to music when I am working. I can't seem to work without it. Even my wife now loves the convenience of just asking "Alexa" to turn on her favorite music station when she works in the house or on the breezeway.
