I've got a subtle water leak in my house plumbing - I think it might be in one of the irrigation controls. I'm considering getting a mechanic's stethoscope to help me, and have a couple of questions:
1. Are there particularly good or bad brands I should be aware of? I'm not looking to spend huge amounts of money; for instance, the electronic ones aren't on the list.
2. Some of the scopes available online have just a rod connecting to the diaphragm and then to the tubing to the earpieces; others have both a rod and what looks like a straightened-out plastic trombone - long tube with a bell on the end. The scopes with the rod and the bell are just a little more expensive. Since I own both a house (built 1892) and cars, I'm looking for flexibility in future uses; are the two different fittings worth it?
