Re: Steve's Aussie Shed/Workshop Build 12mx7m & 3.6m High!

Unfortunately the paved road goes further than I'd like. But there's a track called the old telegraph track we are planning on doing...

Trip will be 4 weeks total.

Shed is coming along nicely.

Trip sounds wonderful. Our Cape York trip inspired me to retire up this way. Beautiful part of the world. I am in Clifton Beach just north of Cairns. Drop a line if you need anything whilst in the area.

Make sure you stop in Cooktown also. Lots of history, and the Museum is wonderful.

Not to hijack the thread, but some photos to inspire you!

Cheers,

Ken

So my next phase of building has started! I'm really excited about this one as I got to work with some timber which I rarely do.

This is going to be part of the structure holding up the patio roof off the back of the house.

Due to the size of the posts I had to use a chainsaw mill to slot then for the stirrups.

They've cone up great after the first oiling.1cc10932bb06e60a75204a00f7b4aa04.jpgec081fe7417713463b6ae3ffcafb10d1.jpgffcc42ebe99c37335e21f63b6bd1ec57.jpg8c0ee6e4e8cde8e86d0e285bc78e5023.jpgaff9002bd4b64c167c4cc45767718e3c.jpg

Nice posts! Love the 3d printed fuse block mount too. Does the plastic from the 3d printer hold up to underhood temps and chemicals ok?

All the components to build the patio roof arrived yesterday. Up early this morning ready to start building it!9b45d7e8c3b097f7903eb0730a588837.jpgafd8cd0f3ee9c035ce2b7d5a4def578d.jpg6a69509ee81d8bd87744f823792ef20b.jpg

Well I'm a bit pissed, they delivered me the wrong size bolts for the beams so now I'm left with a half built patio. I'm gonna have to hit Bunnings early tomorrow morning and buy the right ones then modify them to suit.

Otherwise it's looking pretty damn good.404bbe530f55dbc255878c57fdfcf309.jpgd702fe4ce5f762645d0bf12581933a24.jpg

Today's progress was slowed by cutting and notching the big wood posts. Once that happened the beams were on pretty quickly.

There's a couple of panels on and we ran out of daylight.

I'll get a photo of the panels up tomorrow.915d688fd04e976d255080d836b68e0e.jpgfbaa1be3a86d926085be2ff0b9f88fae.jpg

Really inspiring build mate, I'm southside Brisbane and have encountered the same drainage problems so a new shed has been put on hold for now, Nice to see the results of your perseverance

Are they the lok on sockets from kincrome? Haven't had a chance to use them but they look interesting

Yeah drainage can be a pain. I'm really happy with how it turned out in the end. Haven't had any water issues. So glad I put the driveway drain in.

The kinchrome sockets are alright. Lok on I'm pretty sure is just the name of their 12 point sockets.

I have a mix of siddies and kinchrome.

And it's done! I'm really pleased with the end result and proud to have done a lot of the work myself.1efaec47fc2cfa51e101bddcaf762d92.jpgf97b4f0e123ba8621a8594b84d00c254.jpg

Looks great!

Any guttering on the roof side of the larger section? Might be enough surface area to overwhelm the existing guttering, and back up under the tiles into the roof space. Would hate to see any damage to the house, from what looks like a great outdoor space.

Enjoy your yard!

Yes there's a gutter on the back of each of the new roofs. They drop the water into the gutter of the house on either side which is right near a down pipe.

I've taken care of the water situation no problems there.

This is how I deal with the water coming off the new roofs. I have one of these coming off each side of the house that puts the water close to a down pipe.

If any overflow was to happen it would spill out onto the driveway and not into the under cover area.20180412_075850.jpg

I'm having Solar and a battery installed at the shed soon. Managed to score an awesome deal from the government with a 10yr 10k interest free loan.

In order to mount the battery I needed to strengthen the wall. I also wanted a mini office space for my business so I killed 2 birds by cladding the interior wall with form ply.

Father in law helped with some scaffolding and we got er done.

I welded some frames for a couple of desks and used some Ceasar stone table tops I scored free from a cafe on gumtree.

I now have a nice space for my business work and the 3d printer is out of the house.

Took the chance to install a small network cabinet for my security and a NAS I'm running.8e68b0c899f70bceee0e5ef02a7551a9.jpg0971de0c6e52d22355d0fc463b31432b.jpg8956ed38576d9d9f7c54193e09527dd6.jpgb3f6f6dac2c35ff4e60eb9fc927eba4b.jpg91266bbcb19279546274bf1aa32bb29a.jpg54a38b049606e9eb4d43a004a73980f6.jpg6872a4589fb29282d4f7b8807b196cec.jpge0c65aa1c4a1e6a7eb6fb7c6ddb48bc1.jpg17b63cb18810528f97ff419cdefd237b.jpg0c2080b14c26e6a0127f711b7c1a4701.jpg
