The weather a couple weeks back really kicked my ***!! We had crazy winds then wet heavy snow that set me back in time and money. I lost at least 7 sheets of 2” foam and ended up relaying all of it a second time after shoveling all the snow off. To say the least it was a mess!!
The lot looked relatively flat but actually dropped close to 3’ so it took 21 quads of #1 stone to get the inside filled. We compacted it every 6-8” then layed plastic sheeting downfie moisture barrier and then 2” foam on top of that for the in floor heat. Originally I was not going to run radiant heat because of cost but all my older car buddies talked me into it. I’m sure down the road I’ll be happy I did. The two open areas with rebar are poured heavy for putting a two post lift in the shop side of the building. There will be a wall separating the shop and storage area. The storage side will have storage trusses and the shop will be vaulted for the lift.

Thats a great size! How deep did you have to go for your frost-depth?

Thanks !! Its been a long time planning. I wish I could have moved the building closer to the lot line but had to follow all the county setbacks.
We are required to do 4’ walls with a 8” footing. We ended up with 10” footing because it got dug too deep.

The siding is LP Smart Siding and the garage doors have the simulated wood grain

We have walls!!! The rough crew were able to come this past Saturday and got all the walls up. There on a really big house and just fitting me in here and there. We decided with my bad luck with Mother Nature we held off on sheeting the walls. The trusses are be delivered Wednesday so I think they may come this week and start sheeting it and set trusses this Friday.

Congrats on the new shop build! Good progress so far.

I agree with the old guys, the heated floor should prove to be worth it in the long run.

Darn fine structure you have coming together there!

Stick built is definitely preferable to poles, but of course, you do have to pay for it. From the limited partial pics of your house, it would also appear rather impressive.

Why only the one floor drain? I'm guessing maybe that is the only bay that will have vehicles coming and going in winter?

It appears that you are using 2x6s for those 12' walls. Are they putting any blocking it ?

Code up here would require 2 rows of blocking on those walls. Which for speed wise should have been installed when wall was laying down. As well as sheatibg. Wind shouldn’t be an issue unless it’s 60 mph gusts. The wall should just be braced properly. As it should be for setting trusses on.

The packer you have in the photos is barely capable of packing 2” lifts nm 6-8”. Hopefully you have no issues.

That will be one impressive shop when done. Built a shed for a friend with the smart siding. It’s nice stuff. Just paint to what you like. Can’t wait to see the finish product. I love stick frame compared to pole.

They knew they have to block the walls and my contractor said he normally blocks and sheets on the ground, but he’s doing this on the weekends and he didn’t have his machine on site yet. He was also worried about leaving the walls up for a week sheeted without having trusses on it to keep everything in place. As far as the concrete I hope it’s compacted good, the owner of the company has been doing 30 plus years and a personal friend,I’m thinking he knows how to do it.
I ordered the LP Smartside prefinshed, it has a factory applied paint, it’s either PPG or Sherwin Willams it’s what we used on the house also.

Thank You
There’s a full width track drain in the wash bay in front of the overhead door, the rest of the shop will be car storage. I also have a floor drain near the dividing wall for the boiler condensation line

Do yourself a BIG favor and wrap that whole building in stone like you have in front. My only mistake was doing it on three sides and not the back. That wall get hammered by the water and snow up to about three feet. If I did it over I would wrap the whole thing 3’ up in stone. Every year I need to remove mildew and re seal...consider that change to avoid hassle.
