Stick Built Versus Post Frame Garage

Good Morning!

This is a popular question, let me know what you guys think and why. There are many benefits to both from what I have researched. The biggest thing I think you should consider would be the need for the interior finishing. What!! not post rot ?

I went with a pole bar foundation, studded walls and I finished the interior. Depends on what ya want.

Depends on what you want to use the building for and somewhat on size.

Very large or if you just want to store equipment out of the weather without heating or cooling, a pole building is the way to go.

More typical size (2 - 8 car) probably stick built. Many more options on finishing it out.

If you are planning on heating and/or cooling the building, even if not in the short term you need to install insulation and vapor barrier under the concrete floor. Also, get some quotes of building with structured insulated panels (SIPs). This building method will produce a well insulated (cheap to heat and cool) structure.

Apex: what size are you thinking of building and more details helps us help you. what will be in the shop, heating and those sort of details.

i'd probably build a stick built because i'm not a fan of burying wood for a structure. That said I've seen a lot of pole built garages, shops and barns so might i suggest you start reading some of those great threads in garage gallery. if you still have questions after reading a thread now that you are a member you can ask questions on that thread where the builder of that garage can maybe give you a better answer.
