Hello everyone,
First time for me here.Planning on a future garage out back. Which is the cheapest to build? I will do it myself, either way.
Thanks.

What size are you intending to build?

What degree of finishing? - drywall interior, electrical, etc...

"Cheap" is not an applicable term when it comes to construction unless you are building a structure from empty beer bottles and mud.

If I were to do mine over (it is stick frame) I would stick build it again, but have the foundation at least 2' with block. It would be easy to cover the block on the outside with something like brick, stone, or even siding, but 2' of block on the inside would make it nice for any water usage. if I would have a solid block garage, it would have to be cut faced blocks above surface for aesthetics. Myself, I am more comfortable with stick building.

im assuming since you are doing it yourself that you have construction experience so wouldnt you have some idea of material cost? Im going to say stick building just because it will go up faster and give you more versatility compared to block for hanging and mounting things to the walls.

Im a sheetmetal worker by trade. Arround construction all the time. Just havent had time to check prices yet.
Planning on a 30x40.
Insulating a block building is easier to me than a stick-build. Available are galvanized Z-channels designed to be anchored every 16 inches, then you slide the pre-cut foamboard in. Dont get no easier than that. Then just drywall over that.
Painted exterior block is good enough, since I want it to look like a old gas station.
Wiring will be run in EMT, screw drilling 2x4's!

Thanks.
