The shop I used to work at we used the coated lead ones and had great luck. They aren't a cheap date though. Biggest thing is make sure you clean the rim where they're going to stick. A scotch Brite pad and a small amount of brake clean works good. Have to make sure to get the oil and grease off the rim.

surface prep is key. I use whatever NAPA sells at work. I don't live in snow zone though. I think 3m has some sticky wheel weight in a bottle primer that we smear on the wheel prior to slapping the weights on. I think all sticky wheel weight **** but, that's just me.

If not I've seen them fly right off while still on the balancer!
I use the 3m spray prep. The weight either sticks or it doesn't. I always tug on it after gently tapping with weight hammer. At work used to use the weights that came in rolls. Had to have special cut off tool. Probably got too expensive or not available. I think they were something like 300 a roll.

The 3m rolls are pretty expensive, like states $300/roll. I personally wouldn't (and don't) pay extra for lead, coated steel is fine.

I usually use perfect equipment brand but have used many others, including even HF ones in a pinch one time on the road anc they all stick fine if you prep the wheel and aren't sticking them on dirt or old tape from previous weights.

As mentioned prep is key. I forget the exact numbers but the instructions with the ones from napa state it takes so long for the adhesive to get so sticky and then 24 hours to fully "cure". Or something like that. But who is going to wait 24 hours before driving. I've also run into issues in the cold and the weights not sticking very good. I was doing just a balance one time when it was zero degrees outside and the weights kept flying off. Had to let the rims warm up for a while in the shop before the weights would stick.
