so i have grown a collection of stickers. and after i recevied my Cman box i have been itching to cover it in stickers.

is there a right way and a wrong way to sticker a box?

is there a way to make the stickers last a long long time?

i was thinking about sanding the drawers where i will put the stickers then after the stickers are on spraying clearcoat over the drawers and stickers in 1 shot.

what have you guys done to make the stickers last on your tool boxes?

Best idea I have heard or seen yet is to get sheets of magnetic material and stick the sticker on it and then use a razor blade to cut around it and you have a magnet instead of a sticker and if you want to change it up or don't like the sticker anymore you just pull them off.

Most guys around here aren't fans of stickering up their boxes (unless its a vintage box with period correct vintage stickers that have wear/tear/fade/patina to them). I don't have a problem with it but I personally don't have stickers on my boxes. I have always tried to figure out a way to display my huge collection though. I've thought of just putting a metal "sign" type panel up in the garage and stickering the crud out of it.

+1 on magnetic backing. I like a young fool stickered up my Matco 500 series roller cab and mid/SnapOn top 25 years ago. I recently needed to take a roller cab to work for some project work I wanted to get involved on and had to take something different because I felt embassaed by some of the stickers. A big plus with using magnetic backing is you can transfer the stickers to any new box you upgrade to.

In addition to that the box was painted black with spray cans since in 83' a hose came loose at work from a pump pumping phospherous acid and it sprayed all over my tool boxes, thus washing the red paint off of them. My then boss who was an *** refused to pay for the damage even though I had nothing to do with that pump/hose and only had my toolbox in the general area.

But thanks to this forum I've learned a bunch on refinishing tool boxes so this will become a summer project for me, restoring my old tool boxes.

I hate them on trade in boxes. I have to peel them all off before anyone will buy them.

HA!

When I traded the Rick Mears box I had in my dealer had said what a pain it was to get rid of boxes with stickers. And mine was COMPLETELY covered. So I took a heat gun, peeled every last sticker off of every box, and waxed it (took me a weekend to do it). Needless to say when he showed up on Friday he was very happy (and surprised). The next week he delivered the components (he sold the top, bottom, and sides separately) and when he dropped the top off, the guy had a weird look on his face. Asking what the problem was the guy replied "What happened to all the stickers??" He had seen the box at our shop and bought it because he LIKED all the stickers (they were all vintage) although he never mentioned that. So it just goes to show.....

I work in the bike industry and didn't have any stickers on my boxes for years. I got **** for it all the time and other mechs would constantly put stickers on my boxes. Finally I gave in and made some of the sides a clusterfuckcollage of stickers. I don't know anybody who's box isn't completely covered.

I like stickers, load the box up with them, they come right off if you don't want them or you want to sell the box. I wouldn't sand or clear coat them though.

I put a couple stickers onto old fridge magnets that came in the mail. One was a 2009 calendar from a Realtor, another was an ad for the 1-800 # to call when the power goes out. Those can normally be found on phone books. I'm sure you could buy the stuff from Wal*Mart or Michaels Craft Store as well, but check your fridge first.

Go to a sign shop. They have big sheet magnets that they use to make removable signs for the doors of cars/trucks.

i just use dish soap to clean the residual grease from the box, then apply slowly to avoid bubbles.

Hello

I have no stickers on the outside of my box. I put them on the inside
:)

I figure if I ever decide to clean up or restore Snappy Box I can keep all my stickers because they are on the inside

My toolbox has them on the lid on the inside and thats it. You can see a few of the stickers in the tool box thread. I don't plan on putting any on the exterior of my box. Mine isn't going anywhere anytime soon, if I ever get rid of it. I myself like stickers on a tool box, but the sheet of magnet idea would probably be the best way to go IMHO.

One of the reasons I won't trade or sell this box (KRA59) I will have to dig out the Snap on 'car series' of decals that I have, not the complete set, but 3 or 4. I haven't seen a decent looking Snap on decal for ages, the racing ones don't do anything for me, and Tony says they haven't come out with any other styles for a long time.

I wish to fk I had another unused 70th anniversiary one.

i wish i had more stickers to put on my box, it's only been around sence last nov. and it's allready getting scratched up.

I've bought some stuff ( Accel ignition and sunpro tach, flowmaster mufflers), and none of it had stickers, which was weird.
Mabey i should email the companys asking if they would send me some stickers.

I have always loved stickers,I think I became a big fan of them in the mid to late sixties when Andy Granatelli was sticking STP stickers all over the place.I have a fairly large collection.I don't like the ones with the website addresses on them.I usually cut that off.And I won't put a sticker on anything unless I have more than one of them.

Most of the stickers I have are unused.

I sent a bunch of emails thanking my favorite companies for making such great products and asking for some stickers to show my support.

Within a week, my mailbox was overflowing with stickers, plus a few hats, patches and other goodies.

Bike mechanics definitely like to sticker up their tool boxes. I have a few dozen on a couple of boxes at home. My C-man professional won't be getting the sticker treatment, however.

Stickers do not have part numbers. There are sold to the dealers by a third party company. Dealers have to order them in packs of 10. They usually change up the sitckers once a year. It is up to each individual dealer to decide if he wants to have stickers on his truck.
