Stihl 036 back to life

Was at a antique machinery and tool show a few weeks ago one guy had a 036 I picked it up no compression, but did not feel any bottom end play I figured someone ran straight gas in it. Got it for 40 bucks pulled the cylinder sure enough scored but not overheated. got a piston and cylinder kit from baileys 100 bucks, and it runs great. Good investment for a 64 cc saw.

Just breaking it in, handles similar to my Dolmar 64 I may upgrade the dolmar to the 84cc piston and cylinder kit now.

Can never have too many saws.

Good deal. One of the best all-around mid-powered saws Stihl has made. I still use my 036 Pro.

The 036/034 family is one of Stihl's best mid range professional saws. (great power to weight ratios).

I hope you changed the fuel line and inspected the intake boot/impulse line very carefully!!

My dad bout a stihl 36 for full retail $700 bucks over twenty yrs ago...
the only thing it has needed is bars and chains.....

Yes I have been getting parts and chain from them for years I really like their chain, woodland pro more tooth length for resharpening.

Jason 280, I have a 660 Baileys has all the parts you would need for it. I use it for my milling saw I run ripping chain on it ground at 5 degrees. Making my own lumber I can do jobs most other specialty contractors wont take on.

Go with the OEM 79cc cylinder over the 85cc after market ones, Unless you plan on having it ported. The 85s have some issues.
