Stihl 2 in 1 sharpener question

I have a Stihl 2 in 1 sharpener, really like it but would like to get it to work even better. Assume one side teeth come out good but the other side after the same number of strokes is longer , the rakers/ depth gauges are too low and sometimes get an overbite. This is more noticeable when the chain is over half filed away, any sugestions?

Use a set of dial calipers to measure the teeth and ad strokes to take the high/long ones down. Or get a grinder or granberg sharpener that has a length stop and use it every 5 sharpenings to even it up

I like to do my research and joined a chainsaw forum after buying my Stihl MS250. All the guys on there ragged on the 2-n-1 as it produced some less then ideal results. Well, they were right. I bought a regular Stihl file system and the results are much better. ymmv

I have an older version of this tool. I had decent results with it. You can get a raker depth gauge to set the height of the rakers. Counting strokes of the file has never worked for me. Some cutters can be more damaged than others and take more filing. I use the 2 in 1 for touch ups and hand file and gauges for full on sharpening.

I think the ergonomics of the tool make it easier to apply force on one side, and the other side is your less comfortable side, won't be exactly the same. That is why you are most likely getting different results side vs. side.

I have had good luck with it, it's nice that it does everything at same time. But if you ever sharpen with just a round file in between using that tool, you have to make sure you are actually hitting the tooth and not just on the raker flat file. This type of simultaneous combo sharpening can be deceiving.
