Here's another tool I bought for cheap-ish about a year ago and fixed up, a small Stihl gas trimmer:

This is a japanese made trimmer probably in the early 1990s or maybe late 80s, just a rough guess however. But it's japanese quality from an older time.
I thought it would be nice to have for keeping the ditches and other places in shape, this one can also take proper blades if I want to. I got it cheap because the carburetor is damaged, the adjustment for the idle simpy broke off during a fall or somesuch.

I attempt to repair the carburetor by making a new part to hold a screw, the old system used a camming screw IIRC.

I have drilled a hole in the carb where there was "meat" enough

Maybe some here can see what the idea is already... Back in the mill for drilling & tapping

Cut off the excess material and back in the carb, then I glued it with devcon epoxy metal filler. Now the function should be apparent. The screw is still too large however.

Unfortunately my modification was not fully thought out and the air filter no longer fits. The solution is to dig in deeper. I make an adapter for the air intake to move it out of the way.

Removing excess material

And everything fits together now:

I've been using this since last year and it's a very nice trimmer / brush cutter. I also cleaned out the gear head and regreased it.
