Finally making progress on my 2800 sq ft shop remodel - add on. I have dreamed about a long workbench I could work on from both sides, so I built one 16' long with a 6' bench across one end. Tied them all together with 5/8 OSB and then nitrile rubber over the top. This will mostly be for chain saw and small engine work.
When I was working at STIHL they were cleaning out some old inventory in the warehouse and I ended up with a 1993 set of tool panels, based on what someone in Germany thought a dealer should have hanging on the wall. I got these in 2010 or so and started collecting all the tools on the list as time went by, knowing someday I would have a place to set it up. Panels 1-6 are pre-printed with tool part numbers and silhouettes and then there are 2 panels that are blank. I added lots of newer tools to the 2 blank panels and filled in some spaces on the others. Found the last 2 tools I didn't have, and they will be here next week.
Finally I put 1 4X8 sheet of pegboard up with 2 rows of sliding panels in front so 3 layers of tools. I am 70 years old and this is my 3rd and final shop project so I am finally getting things they way I want for displaying my chain saw collection and all the tools I have accumulated. Got some great ideas from this site as well as others. I hope some of my ideas may be of value to others as well.

As I continue to open boxes that have been sealed for years, I find tools I don't recall any details about and some I do.
Here are some of the drills I have unpacked:IMG_1381.JPG
The 1/2 drive at upper left I bought from Graingers in Fort Worth when I got married, 49 years ago. I have 3 identical Craftsman 1/2 hammer drills, and I only remember getting one of them...
The other lower down is a 3/8 I have had since before I got married and is a Dayton also.

The 1/4 drive upper right I bought when we were working on our first house in Weatherford OK so around 1980 or so. The big one below it I found in a shed when we were living in Palatka FL around 1995. I tore it down, cleaned the commutator, put a good cord on it and it works, but never put a chuck on it to use it.It has 2 rivets on top but no tag so I have no idea of the brand. The Black & Decker Shorty 1/4 right angle I bought at a flea market in Saint Augustine FL sometime in the late 1990's. Works good but needs the cord strain relief repaired.

My first battery drill with the 10 foot long NiCad battery that just went slower and slower as if drained down. The battery is long gone but of course I still have the drill and charger.

Demagnetizers!
Remember these?

The one on the right is a Radio Shack for 8 track players. Why I still have it is a mystery since I don't have any 8 track tape decks anymore...
the other one is for VCRs. I found a bunch of old home movies we made on VCR tapes and my son bought a gizmo to play the video through and digitize it, and he has been converting tape after tape and setting them up on a server so he can torment us all with the videos!

Jig Saws, Scroll Saws and Sanders
IMG_1388.JPG
Left is a Stanley, and I have no idea where it came from. Next is a Craftsman Vibratory Straight Line Sander, and your hand goes numb real fast with it. Again, I have no idea when or where I got it. Same for the Craftsman Scroll Saw next in line. The Shopmate Jigsaw i do recall being gifted to me from an Old guy named Bill Queen when we lived in Palatka, around 1990 or os, and he passed away not long after that. This is a very well made in USA tool, heavy, nice big phenolic handle on the side and the lever handle to tilt it is also a nice phenolic material as well. Just a nice tool to hold and use. I have mostly invested in Milwaukee tools for the last 15 years or so, but when I use this saw there is no comparison. I guess we can never go back to what it was in the past...

Singer Hand Vacuum
IMG_1395.JPG
I was given this by my Mom, and I remember my grandmother using it when I was a kid. The cloth bag had rotted to nothing so I put a small paper vac bag on it with some zip ties, and it works perfect. I am guessing at least 75 years old, maybe more. It is a shame these old power tools don't have manufacture dates on them.

Valve Organizing Yardstick
Never heard of one of these before:
IMG_1398.JPG
My wife surprised me with this from a shop she and friends were at in Jacksonville. We Googled it and a couple of hits came up with it sitting on the bench with valves stuck through the holes. Said it was given out by parts stores for organizing the valves from a flathead Ford when doing a rebuild. Seems to me the 1-16 should have been labeled different but what do I know?
The other side has the store name.

All I find on Google is the Morrison Automotive Group so may be connected, maybe not.
Anyway, just trying to document some of these old tools for reference in case anyone else has anything to add.
